Actresses did an excellent job, but the movie moved to slowly and was confusing at the end. "Identity" was a better movie than this as far as making you think.

Swimming Pool is a wonderful British/French joint venture starring Charlotte Rampling, a British actress who rarely gets the lead in a film but has been deserving of one for many years. Here she plays a role that tests every strain of her acting talent and she passes with flying colors. This is an offbeat mystery with interesting twists that leave you on the edge of your seat until the conclusion. It is a movie you will ponder and think about long after you leave the theater but, during that experience, you know you are encountering something special. Co-written and directed by Francois Ozon, you will find the film engrossing and sexy while, at the same time, highlighting peaks of acting too often missing in films of today. I rate this film an 8.0 and trust you will see and enjoy it as much as I did. Expand

Splendid acting, thoroughly enchanting. Ludivine Sagnier is so natural, she does not seem to be acting. She appears to show real hurt, indifference, vulnerability. The film is captivating because of her and Rampling. Unfortunately, the story runs out of steam and resorts to a tidy, though imaginative, ending.

An interesting movie undone by an unnecessary twist ending. They should have played it straight!

It looked good (and so did the two leading ladies), but I didn't really get it, and throughout the first half, I was just waiting for SOMETHING to happen.

What the hell is this? This movie is just a long plodding story line with a little twist at the end. I think?

Two words: Ludivine Sagnier. That's all that needs to be said. This is a new level, an unprecedented level. It doesn't hurt that the movie is pretty good, too. However, Ludivine Sagnier is worth the price of admission even if you're at those "Premium" theaters that charge $15. Unfreaking believable! She is perfect. The movie loses a point for the gray bush and the ending that didn't need to be that way. Other than that, it's all about Ludivine Sagnier. Expand

A great movie about a repressed woman who grinds out mindless crime fiction and how she trzansfroms her reality into pulp fiction. A powerful revalation at the end--a flash of braces-- brings you down to earth and makes you reimagine the whole film. Four stars

Solid movie with an interesting story and very good acting throughout. The ending, while confusing at first, shifts the perspective of everything you have seen in a way to make it much more real.

French pretentiousness. this firlm starts out as an interesting psychological study on a bitter, sexually repressed english spinster. it soon turns into a silly, pretentious, cliched attempt at capturing mystery and nuance. skip this bit of pretentious french drivel, and check out the work of a master. rent mulholland drive.

It should be highly regarded as one of the few films this year that has tried to be fresh, imaginative, and different...and not for the sake of box office, but rather for the sake of art and expression. Engaging throughout.

I still can't figure the whole thing out. What is reality and what isn't? Maybe I'm too old for this kind of movie!

Quite a refreshing dip from the garbage that came out during the same summer. Every film uses something to fill up the spaces and to keep audiences distracted, this one just happens to use softcore pornography.

  1. Immersed here in both the fair, dreamy air and chilly, deeper waters, Rampling and Sagnier make Swimming Pool a fine sunlit noir, oozing sensuality and menace.
  2. The narrative logic of Swimming Pool slips through our hands like cool water, shimmery and light-dappled, leaving behind the pleasures of summer heat and goose bumps.

While not stunningly original, is fresh and compelling enough to hold the viewer's attention through its entire running length.
