    Fisher's dialogue draws heavily on the original film's intertitles and script directions and the addition of sound is a plus for moviegoers uncomfortable with the artificial embarrassment of silence.

    Of course, while your brain is fritzing out, you're trying to figure out how the cinematic trick was done and what the implications might be for other old films. Scary, disturbing, intriguing, all at once.

    Result: An undeniably clever commingling of a new cast (and spoken dialogue) with a silent classic. But pic fails to engage consistently on its own terms, and begins to coast on novelty value around the midway point.

    A sad and needless attempt at a re-make. The film makers paid more attention to the use of the 1920 versions back drops and practically ignored the dialogue and character development. Krall and Jones were outstanding as Caligari and Ceasar but ultimately I feel there talents were wasted. I'm sorry I wasted my time and money on this one.… Expand
