Perfection! Incredibly great! One of my top 10 movies of all time. Presents us with a completely foreign culture, and two others at war with each other. They don't understand each other. Wait, but they do. After all, we are all human.

Very enjoyable. There were a couple of scenes that were dragged on a bit but otherwise I don't have any complaints. Loved the misscommunication between the characters.

Instead of glasses, the Lapp woman covers the head with a scarf to disguise her beauty. Anni-Christina Juuso is all that. She's plucky, warm, and hysterically vocal in bed. She has Samantha Morton's ability to get a lot of mileage out of her face, alone. Where her eyes wander in the sauna is a wonderful example of non-verbal acting. If "The Cuckoo" has a flaw, if you want to call it a flaw, perhaps, the Soviet Army captain is too likable when he should be truly menacing. The tension isn't palpatable enough. It would've been more effective if the Russian packed more menace in his words beneath that benign demeanor. Also, a long scene in which the Finn tries to get back to the living world seems out of place in a political film. "The Cuckoo" is terrific fun, but a tad lightweight. Expand

Completely enjoyable. Easily one of the best summer movies. Anything below a 7 is a joke. Yes, one section does go on too long by about 5 minutes, but the rest of the film is tight, the performances and warm, even from the rough, worn out russian, and not enough can be said about the lead actress -- beautiful and brilliant. See this film.

  1. A stirring action movie -- in the international manner of ''The Fast Runner'' or ''No Man's Land."
  2. By the time you've worked through the allegorical implications, you may be wondering why you didn't just go see "Charlie's Angels."

The performances are solid, and Juuso has a particular charisma. The actors do a commendable job of revealing unimagined layers to their initially one-note roles.
