Ron Howard's splendid The Da Vinci Code is the Holy Grail of summer blockbusters: a crackling, fast-moving thriller that's every bit as brainy and irresistible as Dan Brown's controversial bestseller.
  2. While the story plays better on the page than the screen and some of the film's elements work better than others, a proficient Ron Howard version of things is certainly competent if only occasionally thrilling.

It stars Tom Hanks in his first genuinely dull screen performance.

I absolutely loved this movie! I was completely entertained, and I have never read the book so I had no idea how it was going to end, which was a nice change since I normally have movies all figured out by the halfway point. Expand

  2. Action-packed with some violence. A so-so adaptation of the novel. Too much talking going on in the whole film. The Da Vinci Code kind of succeeds as a film worth watching. Expand

Tom Hanks could have done a similarly effective acting job by telecommuting.
