  1. If you enjoy watching likeable characters beaten to death, then this is your movie. Why nice actors like these folks would agree to make this movie speaks to the craft itself, where some people will take any role for money. I hated this movie! Expand

  2. When a film deals with such themes as violence against women then the makers best be sure they are making it in a way that at least speaks a message against such a theme. And when they are explored to the extent that they are in a film such as The Killer Inside Me then there better be a seriously big message being sent because it is incredibly confronting to watch. All I can say for this film is at least they didn’t trivialise the theme of violence against women. The Killer Inside Me stars Casey Affleck as a West Texas sheriff Lou Ford, who has a number of things wrong with him, only one being is love for beating up on women. Kate Hudson plays the incredibly naïve fiancé of Ford and stands by him without catching on for a second. And then there is Jessica Alba as Joyce Lakeland, a hooker who bares the main brunt of Ford’s violence, including one scene that is almost unwatchable. With the addition of Simon Baker and Bill Pullman, this cast is fantastic but seems to be put to waste in a film that is incredibly unlikeable. The film is definitely not one for the light-hearted. Sometimes things you see on the screen are so over the top and seem so real that it is hard to think to yourself, “This is just a movie remember.” Director Michael Winterbottom (A Mighty Heart) leaves nothing to be imagined as we see Jessica Alba’s character get beaten viciously in a scene that really may make you want to turn the film off and go and watch Role Models or Superbad to get the smile back on your face. It is incredibly confronting but if you are able to stomach it then, well, it still isn’t great. You definitely have to ask the question of why Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson took on roles like this that saw them get an absolute beat down on screen. It is a strange choice for each of them as they have mostly been the very rom-com type of actresses. Both are good in their roles but it just doesn’t make any sense to take on a role like this, especially for Jessica Alba. Trying to think of how they performed in this movie was like trying to stand up after having both of your legs broken. It was incredibly hard to remember after the violence that had preceded the end of the film. The Killer Inside Me is brutal and that’s about all you can say. The performances are good, especially from Affleck who is terrifyingly convincing. The ending was poor as everything was tied together in a frantic last portion of the film. But you really can’t get past the violence of this film that was, in my opinion, over the top and incredibly unnecessary. This is definitely not the movie you go and see on a first date. 3. Sadly "The Killer Inside Me", despite its few impressive tensions the movie creates, is your average sadistical porn horror.
