As you watch this enchanting fantasy, feel free to be thrilled or to giggle, as you wish. This time, Happily Ever After lasts 98 minutes. [21 Sept 1987]
  3. Kinda cute, occasionally amusing and very, very slow... I just wish [it] had more momentum, more oomph. [9 Oct 1987]

The Princess Bride leaves me as at an awkward place as a reviewer. Partially it is the increasingly common fact about many of the Second Age Reviews, that many people will have already seen it. But more alarming is the fact that, I can't count on that so I may accidentally give away spoilers. For example, I can say that the actor playing the Man in Black (unrelated to Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones) does an excellent job, but if I were to name that actor I would most probably spoil a major reveal of the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it (although honestly, who hasn't seen it?). You'll either love it or hate it. Although slow, it's worth watching once. Mandy Patinkin brings a lot to the "action party," though Elwes seems to throw it away. It seems that Reiner was trying far to hard to add romance, action, and anything else you can think of. I feel this was the downfall. Was it a romantic/action/mushy slow train, or brilliant? You watch it! Expand
