Okay so far. Now his team needs to see faster pitches in practice so they can hit the opposing team's pitcher during the games. Little does the coach know he's throwing in the high 90's; that's Major League "stuff." His players make a deal, they win, he goes to a Major League tryout. Who knew this was a true story about a real person? I don't have that many DVDs but this one is in my collection. Expand

Great fun, everything hangs together. Dialog is smart, witty and believable. Dennis Quaid (48) does a wonderful job of playing a 30+ ballplayer and it's obvious Dennis is a good athlete himself.

They repay the trust by providing Dennis Quaid (Jim) to realize his dream of pitching in the major leagues as a rookie at age of 35 - ancient for a professional ballplayer. Quaid is excellent in the role and does not overplay the part. We learn that with the support of our family anything is possible? Great movie about family values. Collapse

Laugh-out-loud funny and touching. A real gem that you can take the kids to see! You don't have to love baseball to love this movie.

Touching movie about dreams lost and found. Could have been a trite "Follow Your Bliss" plot, but script, direction, cast (especially Quaid). and soundtrack elevate this above the average. Slow, but a solid and entertaining film.

Rookies were meant to live up its own years of starting to become experienced at things and the Rookie somehow brings all of the baseball team in and you'll know what happens next.

Rachel Griffiths has a rather thankless role as The Wife, but her teary reaction to Morris' call-up to the majors does transform "The Rookie" into a contender. The audience sees Morris through her eyes, and they are glistening. We have Rachel Griffiths has a rather thankless role as The Wife, but her teary reaction to Morris' call-up to the majors does transform "The Rookie" into a contender. The audience sees Morris through her eyes, and they are glistening. We have to know he is worth rooting for. But really, the story of Jim Morris is so amazing, the director is like Trent Dilfer(whoops, mixed metaphor). Just don't screw things up. Expand

A great movie for the soul, but not for the senses. That is, the script, plot and acting is all good, but pace seemed to be a big problem. The watcher with a short attention span will find himself nodding off.
