This is an absolutely terrible movie even by the standards of my 2 year old. It is poorly acted, poorly scripted, poorly shot and doesn't even give much screen time to the steam engines (the main reason my 2 year old wanted to watch it). One big long non-sequitur that makes Teletubbies seem like Shakespeare. There is nothing here for your kid. There is nothing here for you. Don't waste your time or money. Expand

Thomas The Tank Engine has been known for being the most popular TV show made for children of all ages and it goes on for generations ever since, and for some reason, it was based on the Shining Time Station TV show (the only show that I've haven't watched). I have one question before I start reviewing this movie that was based on the show: Is it fair to make fun of a movie you like from your childhood? Hardly, but I've got no time to waste. Time to review. The story focuses on Mr. Conductor as his magic gold dust is running low. Desperate to find it in order to get back to Shining Time, he embarks on a journey to Sodor to find the magic gold dust there. Meanwhile, Thomas the tank engine tries to find off the attacks of the evil Diesel 10 before he finds the lost steam engine and destroys it. Getting all the help from his cousin, his new friend Lily, and her grandfather, Mr. Conductor helps find the engine that has been hidden for years in order to find all of the magic gold dust that has also been hidden. What's so bad about this movie? The storyline was inconsistent, in my opinion. It had a lot of flaws and plot holes I don't even know how many they were. The storytelling was very poor, and even the script was so bland. What's so good about this movie? The cinematography was creative, the acting wasn't half bad, the pacing was good, the visuals were great the music score was very good, and most of all, it had the potential of the TV show despite the fact that the critics said it got americanized. Thomas and the Magic Railroad isn't good nor horrible either. It's a very mediocre family movie, but at least they brought the TV show to life on screen. It's worth a watch on VHS and DVD only. 5/10 Expand

Come on you lot!... Whos this for? My little one love it, hours of piece and quiet. What more could you want? At least you dont get the theme tune every 10 minutes with the movie. Bring on the Tweenies movie or the Teletubbies movie. Cant wait to see the crtics review of those.

Yes, during the first watch this movie is pretty bad. I couldn't figure the story out, but endured it because my then-two-year-old was heavily into trains, and wanted to watch it. But what child watches a movie once? And what parent manages to only endure the movie once? After about six (of umpteen hundred) viewings, I was able to start piecing the plot together, and the story gets to be charming. At least the movie is long enough and complex enough that a parent can sit through it several times, and my three-year-old is still in love with the movie. Expand

The Rev Awdry would be on the point of brutally murdering Britt Alcroft were he alive to see this. And I think God would let him, for this film maketh a blight on the land. Categorically: kids hate it as well. Because it's not a thing like Thomas yer Tank Engine is supposed to be. And what the Fat Controller (not Sir Topham Bloody Hatt) are Peter Flaming Fonda and Adam Bleeding Baldwin doing here? They're respected actors! Help! Help! Expand

Yes, the movie is a grind to watch ... for the ADULTS. My son is 3 -- this movie is for him. He LOVES it. Sure, it'd be nice if there were more acting, plot, etc. but I have to accept that I am simply not part of the target audience. My little trainiac is.

This movie rules!! It has trains that can talk! Since when can trains talk!? This is definitely the greatest movie ever, the character development is incredibly deep, and the special effect are amazing! How did Baldwin get that small?? I mean, c'mon, did they invent a shrink ray or something?? Yeah, like that would ever happen. I reccomend this movie to anyone who wants to see the greatest movie ever!! Expand

This film is an insult to the intelligence and attention span of parents and toddlers alike. can we blame drug intake in the 60s for peter fonda's incomprehensible muttering? who can we blame for the script which has a kid in the train station asking a dog a simple question when there are hundreds of nearby people who presumably talk and are capable of answering her?

A light-hearted, all-time kiddies movie all-in-all with happy smiley faces, most certain to put all kids in a cheery mood.

If you're above the target age of 5, Thomas may coax you into a naplike stupor.
  2. An ugly and insipid film.

Confusing to anyone who's familiar with the word "plot."
