The film isn’t without its flaws, but they’re all forgivable in light of how well it hits the feel-good bullseye.
The humor is stylized but sharply-structured, slightly shticky but well-timed and mostly gentle in tone.

Stuck at home?... yeah so are all of us. Join the club! No seriously, stay home and stay safe but while you're at it, watch the endless supply of streaming movies and tv shows. This weekend we were able to watch one of Netflix's current top 10, Uncorked. This film, which was produced by Netflix, is based on a young man, Elijah played by Mamoudou Athie, who is trying to balance family obligation and individual aspiration. This movie follows Elijah as he tries to become a Master Sommelier while keeping up the family bbq business. With that summary, let's get to the good and bad about Uncorked.
Ok, let's start with the bad because there isn't much of it. The only downfall to this movie was the choreographed and predictable storyline. Every major moment of the movie felt like a 90's sitcom episode. The Family Matters playbook was dusted off and this movie team followed it to a "t". Other than that, Athie's voice takes a bit to get used to and his friends are okay at best.
Now with that said, if you can get passed knowing what's coming in the storyline, the movie is quite enjoyable. Knowing what's about to happen didn't ruin the viewing experience at all because the main cast was so good. Athie, Niecy Nash, and Courtney B. Vance truly put on some great performances. Athie's character was relatable to this generation and hopefully can be inspiring to those who watch and are experiencing similar struggles finding their path. Nash and Vance, as Elijah's mother and father, display some truly heartfelt performances while still providing authentic comedic elements to the film. There were tons of on-screen chemistry for the big three but I'll give a credit to the writing as well. There was a combination of good performances, writing and music that makes this movie enjoyable. OH yes and don't forget, the silent star of the movie, THE SOUNDTRACK. Get your Shazam ready because I promise this movie will have you bouncing.
You've probably guessed it by now but Uncorked is definitely a movie people will enjoy over this Coronavirus break forced upon us. Between the inspiring predictable tale of family obligation versus individual aspiration, the many laughs throughout and the bumping soundtrack, Uncorked is a big box of popcorn waiting to happen. This movie could've come out in theaters but lucky for us, at this time is just streaming gold.

This movie is great if you are foodie and want a wholesome movie. The acting chemistry was good and the story was believable but there were a lot of slow moments in the story. Also if you are not into wine tasting you will be confused on the types of wines in the movie. Staring a reliable cast such as Nice Nash and Courtney B. Vance its safe to say that the movie will entertain if not connect with the viewer.

An earnest, scrappy, and finally touching drama about a young man from Memphis who’s got a dream — he’s a wine buff who wants to become a sommelier — but if he follows it, it will tear him away from everything his father yearned for him to be. That, of course, is part of why it’s a tasty dream.
The pleasures of Uncorked are in how it gently eludes stereotype and brings a rich sense of texture to even its smaller moments.
In the days where we’re all cooped up at home, there are certainly worse things you could do than settling in front of this pleasant film and its upbeat musical tracks (original music by Hit Boy) with a positive attitude and a smooth bottle of wine. It will go down easy.
The film has a solid feel for family dynamics and local color.
The formula is so well-trodden that it needed a sparkling jolt of energy to justify Penny traipsing his way through it again. Uncorked isn’t exactly corked but it’s definitely flat.
