  1. Frankly, you may prefer the company of cinematic serial killers (Freddy vs. Jason) after you meet the pair at the center of this story.
  2. Uptown Girls gives the impression that everyone behind the camera just threw up their hands in helpless resignation.

This is not only unsuitable for children, it's a colossal waste of time at any age.

The feel-bad movie of the summer.
  5. It's supposed to be funny watching these two characters and wondering who'll be the first to start acting her age, but it's really just pitiful, watching two talented actresses...given so little to work with.

One almost pities the unnervingly twitchy Murphy, whose shiny makeup is dreadful, and who doesn't stand a chance alongside the focused intensity of Fanning, who commands the screen with the precision of a 30-year veteran.
  7. There's nothing wrong with Uptown Girls that not seeing it won't fix.
  8. Unlike in ''Freaky Friday,'' no magic spells are involved. Nor is there any of ''Freaky'''s marvelous charm in this ungainly Manhattan fairy tale, directed by indulgent sentimentalist Boaz Yakin.

Slap a restriction order on yourself and don't come within ten paces of this hideous concoction.
  10. None of it is handled with any emotional believability or grace. Well-worn phrases and plot developments are repeated here as though the world had never heard of "Cinderella."
  11. 20
Less "Freaky Friday" than just plain freaky.
  12. It's all too, too cute and too, too forced for words -- not to mention too, too dark.
  13. 12
A creepy, depressing and leering "comedy" that's a virtual collection of "What were they thinking?" moments.

I am quite shocked by all the negative reviews. This movie touched me and it was lovely to see how a free-spirited girl became serious and responsible after one little girl brought her immature behavior to her attention. This is a wonderful movie and Brittany Murphy is surely missed Full Review »

It's a terrible movie, but it would have been so much better if it weren't for two things, the characters, and character development. All the characters are easy to hate, with unfunny lines, poorly acted "emotional scenes" and, well, quite frankly they're wooden. However, it would have been better if the characters had gone from dicks and sluts to nice guys and good people, or if you got the hint that any of them had learned something from Ray or Molly, but you don't, which is the worst part of an otherwise bad movie.
