Violet & Daisy won’t be everyone’s cup of tea... But view this as a modern comic book/fairy tale, and it’s easier to accept this saga of girls with guns and the life lessons they eventually confront.
The key relationships are well drawn, if not especially revealing of anything human, and director Fletcher sometimes dares some welcome absurdity. But if you've seen movies built from the same parts as this one, you'll likely find this too familiar—but energetic, well-acted, and distinguished by artfully artless chatter.
That was an exceptionally clever film.
If you aren't paying attention you will completely miss what is really happening.
Lets just say that any critic who complained about the semi-emotionless acting of the girls or the seemingly unconnected dream sequences completely missed the real story.
Truly amazing action sequences, Violet & Daisy absolutely delivers great sweet bonding, and positive messages about friendship, the plot was interesting and the acting was really good, I had a great time while watching this movie, I highly recommend it to any one who is willing to have fun!
While the film has an appealingly dreamy, summer-in-New-York look and a pleasantly languorous rhythm, it gives the actors very little to do and the audience almost nothing to care about.
This disoriented drivel was written by — and marks the directing debut of — Geoffrey Fletcher, who won an Academy Award for writing "Precious." It’s weird, but not in a good way.
Beautifully filmed, scored, and acted, the writing is on the weird side, but the movie kept me going to the end. Ultimately it's about bonding and the importance of family, despite the nonchalant violence.
Late James Gandolfini won't mind a chessy-action flick after his death, would he? Violet And Daisy is a corny movie starring Saroise Ronan yeah, THAT girl from The Host and another chick. It's a story about two sisters and their job of assassins with a mild taunt mission to hunt down a mega criminal played by Gandolfini. Let me get this straight- Violet And Daisy is FUN. Just awesome, Bourne and Taken with Superbad type FUN. It's jarring and violent with a hyper speed that's pumping till the end.
Really enjoyed the movie... great acting, but I was completely confused by what was suppose to be happening... So many things I didn't understand, but strangely enough I still enjoyed it.
I nearly gave up on this film after about 20 minutes and after watching it through to the end I really wish I had given up after about 20 minutes. I don't know what the writer/director is trying to do here, but whatever it's supposed to be I don't find it to be very entertaining. I don't believe the main characters. I don't believe the plot. Maybe I've got a lot of preconceived notions from reading a lot of true crime. But I have to say I had no trouble believing Travolta and Jackson in Pulp Fiction, so, at least in my view, there must be something missing from Violet and Daisy that must be essential to creating believable contract killers.
If quirky is enough to rock you then give this film a try. Otherwise rewatch Pulp Fiction or something.
The only reason to watch VIOLET AND DAISY is if you are very fond of the three lead actors. Otherwise the tedium and lack of believability make it difficult to watch through to the end. Find another way to say goodbye to James Gandolfini.
