This smart spoof of film noir and filmmaking is very clever and riotously funny.

Melding multiple genres, the movie is certainly funny, but the admirable, reckless energy that makes it worthwhile for much of the running time eventually peters out.
  3. Belongs to an intellectually stimulating subgenre that examines the thin line between documentary maker and subject.
  4. Attempts to do for "The Big Sleep"-type detective movie and film-noir genre what "Blair Witch" did for horror films.
  5. Quickly assumes an appealing mockumentary style.
  6. (Ferrer's) performance as the sensitive private dick borders on beatific as he stumbles about a nighttime Hollywood Boulevard waxing lyrical about "love, sex and betrayal."
  7. This goofball comedy is easy to take and just as easy to leave alone--unless you develop an affection for the hapless characters, which isn't too hard to do.
  8. The droll cast--especially Ferrer, who's exquisite as a tough-talking dunce--deserved something more fully realized than this.
  9. Although Where's Marlowe abounds with many supposedly clever ideas, it's about as badly made as anything you'll see anywhere on television.
  10. Spoof both of P.I.s and independent filmmakers is languidly paced and not very funny.

Stretched too thin, looks cheap, and can't quite go the distance.
