There may be better examples of cinematic art in 2013, but for a good time at the movies, it's hard to imagine anything beating this action extravaganza, from director Roland Emmerich, about a very Obama-like president.

You couldn’t ask for a more fun summer popcorn movie than White House Down.

Itself owing much to such lone-man-of-action hallmarks as “Die Hard” and “Speed,” this welcome throwback to an earlier, more generously entertaining era of summer blockbusters delivers a wide array of close-quarters combat and large-scale destruction, all grounded in an immensely appealing star turn by Channing Tatum and ace support from imperiled POTUS Jamie Foxx.

Even as the story accrues preposterousness, the action moves along crisply, and Tatum and Foxx hit a nice buddy-movie vibe.

Tatum muscles his way through the role with panache, while Foxx never gets a chance to break loose.

This sloppy mess also pales in comparison to the better-paced, taut "Olympus Has Fallen," which represents 2013's better White House invasion story.

[A] cartoonish, offensive, overblown, clanging, steaming piece of ... cinema.

This movie is yet another well made film by Roland Emmerich! The destruction of D.C. was so realistic and the special effects were amazing. I would recommend this film to anybody! Expand

Fun but mindless action flick in the style of the '80's'. If you are a fan of Roland Emmerich, you won't be disappointed. There's enough destruction (this time on a smaller scale) and groan inducing quips to last this film's running length. Sure, it's Die Hard on the White House...yes, you might have seen a similar film earlier this year. This one is bigger: have better actors chewing the scenery and has the trademark crazy action that Emmerich is famous for. Turn of your brain and enjoy. Expand

White House Down is a fun action movie. It wants to be Die Hard so bad, even referencing that movie several times through quotes or cinematic language. White House Down is nowhere near as good as Die Hard, of course, but it's still a fun, brain-numbing romp. Expand

There is a some fun to be had from White House Down, but the terrible script is to big of a problem to overcome. This film is just so dumb and as much as you want to say this is mindless action you just can't. The fun you might have keeps this from being awful though. C Expand

White House Down was okay at the start, but in the end, all we have is just another mindless action movie with a pathetic plot. First of all, the terrorists are not interesting, they are just a bunch of P.M.Cs, nothing else. Second of all, the CGI sucks, this is 2013! And the plot also sucks, it is simply running around, shooting P.M.Cs and run n gun again, feels a lot like a CoD third person gameplay video. The action is okay in this movie but it is simply mindless. I prefer Olympus Has Fallen to this crap. Collapse
