Wingwomen, based on the graphic novel The Grand Odalisque by Jérôme Mulot, Florent Ruppert, and Bastien Vivès, is an action-packed heist film, but it leaves enormous room for the most important thing: Carole and Alex's friendship.
It’s slick and scenic and the stars wear their black robber unitards with French elan. But Wingwomen never adds up to the sum of its parts, no matter how many are added to it.

The only new thing here is the female cast; Other than that, the film is indistinguishable from those that have been seen before. It's not that it's a disappointment, what was needed to stand out is a little more inertia.

The Frenchwomen twist on the supersquad action movie has its charms, but it’s not enough to eclipse the script’s uninspired angles.
Laurent, to her credit as director, is less interested in how a shootout can work as an aphrodisiac, and more invested in how it would affect a female friendship.
Ironically, 'Wingwomen' is an action movie about a group of female thieves doing one last job. The problem is that the action part is overrated. The script is inconsistent; there are three protagonists, but one has nothing to do. Comedy rarely lands. Adèle Exarchopoulos and Mélanie Laurent are fine by themselves, but they don't have that much chemistry together. The ending is ridiculous and implausible. A boring, unnecessarily long, and erratic film.

Wingwomen is a film that has a lot of tonal ups and downs which makes it rather disconnected without being able to get a real moment of true emotion and tension that would get you to give a damn about its story. It has its share of action and comedy, but director/star Mélanie Laurent doesn't share much chemistry with her co-star Adèle Exarchopoulos and when the third lead - Manon Bresch - makes her appearance she feels like a third wheel that doesn't fit properly with them, even when her character gains more weight towards the climax and conclusion. What I can rescue from Wingwomen is the musical score that was performed by the band Archive, which I like quite a lot. The movie itself struck me as completely disposable.
