A native of Queens, New York, Amy Ryan attended the New York High School of the Performing Arts and Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center. After graduating from high school, she went on a national tour of Biloxi Blues and appeared in several off-Broadway and regional theater productions. In 1993, Amy debuted in Broadway as Tess in The Sisters Rosensweig. Her other theatrical credits include Broadway plays Uncle Vanya in 2000, The Women in 2001 and A Streetcar Named Desire in 2005.
On television, she had stints in the daytime drama As the World Turns, I'll Fly Away and Brooklyn Bridge. After appearances in ER and Chicago Hope, she became a regular cast member in The Naked Truth. She also appeared in 100 Centre Street, HBO's The Wire and NBC's Law & Order.
She has also starred in movies such as You Can Count On Me, Keane, Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World, War of the Worlds and Capote. In 2007, she was part of the movies Dan in Real Life and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. That same year, she received several nominations from various award-giving bodies for her portrayal of a drug-addicted mother whose child has been abducted in the movie Gone, Baby, Gone.… Expand
