Jo Whiley was born in 1965 in Northampton.She attended Campion school and studied languages at Brighton Polytechnic. She then moved on to study Radio Journalism at City University in London. Her first job in the media was as a presenter for WPFM, a show broadcast on Radio 4. Jo then moved over into television, initially to BSB to produce and present the indie show, then to Channel 4 as music producer for The Word, giving Britain its first television taste of bands. She joined The Evening Session in 1993 and in September she became permanent co-presenter with Steve Lamacq. With Steve she has regularly fronted the annual Sound City live music festival, on Campus events from universities around the country, the Phoenix Festival and other live music events covered by Radio 1. She took over the weekday lunchtime slot in February 1997, then moved to her current mid-morning show in February 2001.
Jo's record collection is slowly taking over her north London home and includes such varied entries from Nirvana to Heaven 17, and Oasis.
The best start to a normal day in Jo's life would be a sizeable fry-up at her local greasy spoon - on her own. She sights champagne, "throat-crunching whiskies", hummus and Gallone's ice cream among her favourite edible delights.
