Katie Couric

Biography: Katherine Anne Couric was born on January 7, 1957 in Arlington, Virgina. Katie is best known for being a reporter. She has worked on several local and national news stations such as MSNBC. Katie got her big break when she became co-host of the number-one morning news broadcast Today show with then host Bryant Gumbel. To break the ice the first thing Katie said on The Today show was "I can't choose whether I'm Katherine Couric or Katie Couric" and then Bryant playfully replied to the announcer "Can we get her name one more time?" and then the Announcer replied "Katherine Couric". Katie is probably best know for co-hosting with Matt Lauer for 10 of her 15 years on Today. As Katie has seen the best of times with her career she has definitly seen the worst of times. To name one, she held America's hand on that dreadful day of 9/11/2001 when four American planes were hijacked and two crashed and destroyed the twin towers and thousands were killed. Katie has gone through many cups of coffee and hairstyles through her 15 years on Today. On May 31 2006 Katie signed off Today leaving to anchor the CBS Evening News becoming Dan Rather's permanent replacement in the Fall of 2006. This has been brought with tough comments from the CBS news team from what they have seen of the on "Today". Katie quickly grabbed the number-one spot in the ratings game at CBS in her first few weeks but she quickly sank to third of the three major news networks. Many blame this because we know her as the perky goofball on "Today" and now that she is on evening news she has to play along by being all serious and no smiles. We can only hope it gets better for her at CBS but the outlook is not looking pretty. Expand
