Lou Rawls

Biography: Velvet deep-voiced R&B singer Lou Rawls began his career singing for The Chosen Gospel Singers group in 1953. He joined The Pilgrim Travelers group for a short time before enlisting as a paratrooper in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. After serving three years he returned and rejoined with The Travelers. Producer Nick Venet impressed with Lou's voice signed him to Capitol Records where he debuted his first solo "I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water". It wasn't until 1966 that Lou would be nominated for two Grammys for his "Love Is a Hurtin' Thing" album and song. Lou went on to appear on several variety and talk show programs and it wouldn't be until 1975 that Lou Rawls would finally become a household name with the song "You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine)".
