Shelley Winters

Biography: Shelley Winters was born Shirley Schrift, but later changed it. The stage name "Shelley Winters" came from her favorite poet and her mother's maiden name. She is best known as the "Blond Bombshell" with peroxide dyed hair. She has appeared in over 120 movies and has won two Academy Awards. When she was first starting out as an actress, she was roommates with Marilyn Monroe. She taught Marilyn how to "act" pretty. Shelley sustained her long career by repeatedly reinventing herself. Starting as a nightclub chorus girl, advanced to supporting roles in New York plays, then became famous as a Hollywood sexpot. Shelley is known she being outspoken and forceful. She was determined to get what she wanted. In October of 2005, Shelley suffered a heart attack and she was sent to the The Rehabilitation Centre of Beverly Hills. She died of heart failure on January 14, 2006.
