  1. Beautiful but dull, at least in the early going.
  2. This is one of Dreyfuss' best recent performances, and he is sure to get many awards nominations for it. Danner is also fine, and the supporting cast is generally strong, even when not served by the script. After a meandering Night 1, Thursday's Night 2 cranks up and charges toward the outcome we expect.
  3. Watching Timeless won't endanger your past or present, most likely, and it might even be a pleasant escape from the history we're currently living.
  4. The comedy is all over the place in tone, bouncing from broad and silly to poignant and real to silly again.
  5. Odd, crude and strangely charming, Legit won't be for everyone. But fans of FX's other comedies should definitely give it a try.

  22. Steinberg promises that Black Sails, with no parrots and no peg legs, will be pirate-cliché free. Unfortunately, the female characters don’t escape sexist stereotypes. And that keeps Black Sails from being as much fun as it might have been.

  24. Based solely on the premiere, American Horror Story: Freak Show might rate a rave, or at least a "great if you like this sort of thing." But since the first season, I've learned that Murphy and Falchuk don't reliably follow the path they start down, often seeming to prefer to gross viewers out than tell a coherent story.
