Season 6 moves the plot much more slowly than the roller coaster that was Season 5 ("Adventure Time"'s best season to date), allowing a more contemplative narrative and study of character. That, really, is a welcome change of pace after one of "Adventure Time"'s more eventful seasons (not to say that nothing happens this season; it does, just not every episode is super plot heavy). Furthermore, this season does have the best season opener of the series, and does contain it's fare share of classics (like the weirdest clip show of all time, "Is That You?", like a reviewer once said; or the majestic "Jake The Brick"). The truth is: the season isn't over yet and I alredy think it is one of the show's best. And I'm confident it will keep it's stride of awesomeness to the very end.
After seeing almost every episode twice, here's what I thought of season 6, in short: Ambitious story lines and plenty of characterization, with great world building and lore, as always. The season opening was arguably one of the best so far. The closing 6 episodes delivered a satisfying conclusion and set season 7 up neatly.
The season did have some weak points, especially Food Chain and Water Park Prank.
Top favorite episodes: Escape from the Citadel; Joshua and Margaret Investigations; Evergreen; Dark Purple
Episodes I also really loved include Princess Day; Is That You; The Visitor; You Forgot Your Floaties
I feel like if you enjoyed season 5, this season would probably be to your liking as well.
Anyways, I love Adventure Time dearly. I think season 6 wasn't without its flaws, but it still managed to keep me guessing, to make me laugh and feel. And so, I'd give this season a rating of 8.5/10
The Peabody winning 6th season is a marvel that sits amongst adventure times best and most consistent seasons. It's dark two episode premiere introduces us to Finns neglectful father and the dizzying "food chain" that is elevated by guest animators without losing it's personality but it peaks when it's at it's most meditative like "jake the brick"
We are now 14 episodes into season 6, the hands down worst season of Adventure Time since its inception. The show has completely lost its spark, aside from the very dark premiere episodes, everything else has been strangely bungled since those first two episodes. Their was an entire episode dealing with the implied notion that "Jake" the dog is a "bad" Father- it makes me wonder who they think would possibly be interested in an episode like that. I have no idea what they're doing with the show anymore and they completely ruined the emotional connection the audience would've felt towards Finn losing his arm by writing an episode where he just "gets it back" for no reason. Personally, even though I know its early to say such a thing, (and it won't happen anyway) I think its time the writer's end the show. Either this or next season should be the last. Its lost its hook, its lost its charm. The characters have all become "mature" and the story telling is falling apart in most episodes, since they have to suddenly have all these "mature" subjects for their protagonists to deal with. The show has been dead (for me) since "Lemon-hope" had a two part episode based on a minor character that didn't need any sort of character arc whatsoever. I get the feeling that this season will be all about "experimenting" with the show as the guys behind it all realize how easily they can get away with crap episodes and still have fans around to defend said sloppily written episodes by reading far to deeply into them. The show used to be nonsense, but it had appeal and a subtle charm. It lacked direction in many ways, but it made up for it with the vague background and atmosphere of the world. Their was once an entire episode about a poorly built microwave-oven robot who was brought to life by accident to "prank" Jake by throwing never ending pies at his face. That was an actual episode. Nowadays every new episode makes me feel more disappointed about where the show is even going and what its doing.
