Grey’s Anatomy – 12x01: “Sledgehammer”
As soon as we’re brought to the hospital, there’s automatically an emergency. Two young girls, Aliyah and Jess, were rushed to the hospital after getting involved in a train accident. So many questions of what happened and why they were on train tracks arose, but Dr. Callie Torres was the one who figured it all out. After spotting matching hearts on both girls’ arms, she started talking to Jess, as Leah was still unconscious. After a few questions, Callie starts opening up to Jess about her own personal life and struggling with her sexuality, hoping that Jess reciprocates. She does. She tells Callie that her and Leah were out on the tracks because they wanted to be together, whether it was dead or alive. Jess opens up about how she isn’t accepted at home; her parents want to send her to an **** camp. Callie talks to Jess about how she can’t change who she is and whom she loves, even Alex and Maggie chime in to say that the camps never work.
If you thought this was drama, Jess’s parents soon show up. Callie goes to talk to them, and after focusing Jess’s health, she doesn’t stop. Callie gets angry with Jess’s parents, telling them to love their daughter and not change her. Callie is furious about the behavior of the parents and calls child services. Jess’s mom gets so pissed off and gets in Maggie’s face, as she is weaker than Callie. Maggie proves her wrong by punching her right in the face. Aliyah’s dad shows up and is clueless about the whole situation. Jess’s parents insist on yelling at him and blaming him because his daughter made theirs ****. Later on, Jess’s dad sits down with Aliyah’s dad and apologizes for his wife’s behavior. They start to get to know each other, and tell each other about their daughters. Aliyah’s dad is just so concerned about his daughter and doesn’t care about her sexual orientation; Jess’s dad starts to understand that. Aliyah ends up being fine and her father lets her know that he doesn’t care whom she loves, and makes sure she knows Jess is okay.
After both girls’ surgeries are done and they are okay, Maggie knows she has to apologize Jess’s mom for hitting her. As soon as she starts, Jess’s dad interrupts and says Maggie should not apologize for anything. He tells his wife that Jess will not be going to any **** camp and that if she sends their daughter, he will leave her. The parents agree to let Jess be happy with Aliyah.
The battle for Chief of Surgery has begun. Catherine Avery’s choice to compete with Miranda Bailey is cardiothoracic surgeon from John’s Hopkins, Dr. Tracy McConnell. Dr. McConnell wows everyone at the hospital, first by instructing Meredith and Owen on how to save a patient, then by her great presentation. Bailey is feeling down and out of the race. During surgery with her husband, Dr. Ben Warren, he realizes this and amps her up. He makes sure she knows she is the best person for their job. Due to her surgery, she can’t make it to her presentation for the job, so the board of executives comes to her. As great as McConnell did pleading her case as to why she should get the job, Bailey talks about how she has grown up at Seattle Grace, will stay there, and will do a better job than anyone else could do. The board deliberates, and the results are in. Miranda Bailey wins! About time something goes her way.
In other news, Arizona Robbins discovers through Stephanie Edwards through her search for a roommate that nobody wants to live with her. Jackson Avery and April Kepner’s marriage is still up in the air. April wants to go back to the Army, and Jackson wants her to stay, the battle will continue. We’ll find out all about the Japril drama and much more, next week, on Grey’s Anatomy.

Episode Winners:
Miranda Bailey - Of course, after winning the job of Chief of Surgery, there’s no one else that could possibly have won more than her in this episode.
Callie Torres - Callie made all Grey’s fans excited today. She stood up for what she believed in and told the **** parents off. By far my personal favorite this episode.
Maggie Pierce - Fans have not been thoroughly impressed with Maggie’s character, but this episode that changes. This has been her breakout episode, after shockingly punching the **** mother.
Episode Losers:
Arizona Robbins - Her wife (Callie) divorced her, and her best friend (April) is planning to leave for the Army, so this leads her to a search for a new roommate (and friends). Stephanie breaks the news that no one really likes being around her, and absolutely no one wants to live with her.
Catherine Avery - Her pick for Chief of Surgery (Tracy McConnell) may have been great, but it wasn’t good enough. She has to admit to defeat to her new husband, Richard Webber.
Jackson Avery - Definitely seems like April is leaving for the Army again. Jackson is starting to fear ending up alone.
Grade – 9.2/10
One of the best episodes in the past few seasons.
A série, de facto, perdeu qualidade após a morte de importantíssimos personagens para a história da Meredith e do Alex, por exemplo. Alguns episódios destacam-se, mais pela prestação dos atores do que pela qualidade dos casos médicos e dos enredos.
