  • Starring: Michael G. Hagerty, Laura Kightlinger, Pamela Adlon
  • Summary: With single-camera, no-laugh-track comedies now the norm, HBO has decided to revisit the conventional, multi-camera, studio audience sitcom with a raunchy take on this decades-old format revolving around stand-up comedian Louis C.K.

"Lucky Louie" is a true original -- a pleasantly twisted variation on "The Honeymooners" or "Roseanne" for the 21st Century.

If your family game nights tended to end with someone upturning the Monopoly board, then running to their room in tears, and your family trips hit their low point at a national monument in the middle of nowhere when someone abruptly got out of the car and refused to get back in, you're likely to find "Lucky Louie" fairly entertaining.
  3. The comedy is nifty, light and kind, even as it tries to be real, slitting open the stand-up themes of marital sex, masturbation and dope smoking until it's dirty enough to convince you that you're not being condescended to, but smart enough not to be grim. That's a huge feat.

    It's like a David Mamet parody of Roseanne. [19 Jun 2006, p.37]

A show so vile, it makes you think the company's arrogant It's Not TV -- It's HBO slogan isn't a brag -- it's a threat.

I'm 76 years old (wife 66). We can't remember laughing as hard since the 3 stooges and Abbot and Costello. Was hoping to find out that it is going to be renewed only to be disappointed. Next they'll get rid of Maher and Entourage and we can get rid of the HBO extra subscription cost. Expand

The first few episodes weren't the best, but it's really become a great show. Love the characters, the writing, and especially the gigantic balls this show has. Keep it up, and give us season 2!!! Expand

I wasn't at all disappointed in the series debut. The sitcom format has been in the toilet for so long, there's no telling if this will fly or not. But it's very refreshing to see something a bit more realistic, especially when it comes to the appearance of the set. They live in a dump. It looks almost depressing...but that's real. They're not living in some snooty Manhattan apartment with his crappy salary, like most sitcoms would have placed them in. Louis CK is a funny guy...this thing will do well. I hope this is only one of many episodes I'll see. Expand

It's really not that great but for some reason it's one of the funniest shows I've seen in years. I don't know why. Everything is mediocre here. Expand

Annoying and unfunny, please let it be for only 1 season so HBO can move on to better shows.
