  • Summary: In the year 2307 A.D, all the Earth’s fossil fuels have been depleted entirely. Mankind has therefore turned to the next available source of power: solar energy. The world has been split into 3 groups: The Human Reform League (Russia, China and India), The Advanced European Union (AEU), and d the Free Nations Union (formerly the United States). Each of these groups has built an orbital elevator with a solar power generation system. Unfortunately, not all countries are able to properly use the benefits of this system. This has led to widespread resentment and consequently, war.

    During this conflict, a mysterious, private army emerges, calling itself Celestial Being.This military organization has declared that it is dedicated to end all warfare in the world by using special Mobile Suits called Gundam. The 4 Gundam Meisters (pilots) are Setsuna F. Seiei, Lockon Stratos, Allelujah Haptism and Tiera Erde. These are the stories of their conflicts.    … Expand

    One of the top Gundam series, attention grabbing from beginning to end, if you wanna get into Gundam, sure you could watch the classic 1980s, but this is AWESOME!!… Collapse

    Great show overall. Being a Gundam fan, I was disappointed by how much it took from past Gundam series. The set-up and characters are much like those of Gundam Wing: The pilots come to eradicate war, they are already experienced, and they're following someone's plan; Setsuna is a duplicate of Heero, and Princess Marina is a double of Princess Relena. Sentiments were also taken from Gundam SEED: the inherent contradiction that exists in fighting for peace, and the main ship and crew are a copy of the Archangel. The ending was the same as the original Gundam: Setsuna evolves into a "pure Innovator" and can speak telepathically to people, just like Amuro does in the original; the original Gundam suit also makes an appearance at the end (it's slightly modified). But despite these similarities, there are still new elements brought to the table that make Gundam 00 refershing and truly its own: the GN particles, the Veda quantum computer, and the mystery surrounding the creation of Celestial Being. There's the notable absence of a conflict between space colonies and Earth, shifting instead to the more contemporary issue of energy. I appreciated the relative lack of truly crazy and war-hungry individuals that was just so unrealistic in SEED and especially Wing (you do get a masked character that only wants to fight). The music is great and it gives the series its own feel that is compounded by superior animation, distinct visual styles (a bit like SEED but not the same, and much more varied), as well as elaborate and detailed Gundam designs. Considering the series by itself, what struck me most was the sophistication of the relationships. It's far from your typical, clichéd teenage drama. There's the father-daughter-like relationship of Colonel Smirnoff and super soldier Soma/Marie, the relationship between two super soldiers, a more subtle and comforting sympathy between Feldt and Lockon, the funny relationship between a hopeless pilot and a serious colonel, and the love of two college students wrecked by war, among others. I rarely felt the relationships were overdone or contrived. Some work out and some don't, and they use them well to show the consequences of fighting. Finally, the pacing was good. The four-year split between the first and second seasons was a welcome surprise that helped strengthen the overall themes of the series as well as change the relationships between characters. In general, I was always crazy to see the next episode. There were also some truly heart-wrenching moments and some characters I really, really wanted to stay alive. It's definitely worth a watch, and I'm looking forward to the movie.… Expand
