Very funny sci-fi comedy. Would be the best if Rick and Morty wasn't around. It would be a real shame if this show doesn't find a new home for a second season.
It is cray cray funny. There should be more like a season two or something please. More funny. The one guy Kent is really funny because he is different and that's bad for him.
The humor in Other Space is largely of the absurd, what-would-happen-if-we-put-idiots-in-a-serious-space-setting variety. Sometimes the jokes hit, other times it feels like the kind of space opera I filmed with friends while in high school in the late 1980s.
The plotlines are moderately intriguing.... But the cast, a mixture of actors, comics and writers, isn’t really up to the challenge of getting the best out of this material.
Captain Stewart Lipinski fills a role similar to that of Michael Scott in the office in this one of a kind comedy, though he definitely has a one of a kind qwerkiness. Along with him is a great cast that really seemed to mesh well as the season went on. More importantly, a definite MST3k vibe was part of this show due to the genius of casting Joel Hodgson as the spaceship engineer, and bringing in Trace Beaulieu to voice Art, his sarcastic robotic sidekick. I haven't been hooked on a good sci-fi for a while, and definitely not one that made me laugh so much.
The only downside to this comedy is that it was obvious that it didn't have enough funding. With better funding, this show could make the jump from cult comedy status and turn some heads. I'm also disappointed ed that Yahoo did so little to publicise Other Space. Had I not stumbled upon this accidentally, I would have never known anything about it. I'm hoping that season two gets picked up by a major player in the online streaming world, or better yet, the sci-fi channel (they could use a fun comedy).
This show makes me really happy. Excellent mix of quirkiness and humor, and Milana is always amazing! Tina's broadcast video is the best! I will be outraged if I don't get a season 2!
Space exploration shows like "Star Trek" are an institution. But they offer plenty that could be skewered. I had some hopes that "Other Space" would do a good job skewering the genre, but it's just OK so far. That being said, it might be something Yahoo could build on, unlike the creaking to the finish "Community" and the incredibly bad "Sin City Saints."
While this Paul Feig experiment in space is still finding its way, the whole thing still feels like a really long SNL sketch. Equally as committed and executed. Forced characters with some real "ZANY" situations. With the low budget props and costumes this feels like Yahoo spent a LOT of money on somebody's web series.
Now folks, we are well acquainted with Paul Feig. Remember "Freaks and Geeks"? It is a classic TV show. But this mish mash is not up to those standards. The humor is forced and the cast except for Milana Vanytrub is sub par. The subject matter is well trodden and does not lend itself to fresh laughs. Avoid this one.
