By focusing on Tommy's deteriorating mental state, the cost of continued violence, and the interpersonal relationships of the Shelby family and how everything they touch eventually turns to ash rather than simply relying on yet more forgettable villains for conflict, Peaky Blinders is a better, more complete family saga than it has been in recent years.
The plot develops interestingly, and quickly and aggressively, just not brought to a logical conclusion. Suffice it to say that Winston Churchill and Oswald Mosley - the main fascist of Great Britain - appear here for the first time. In addition, since the fifth season street crime, illegal business and big politics of the Shelby family blend together, and it's very curious to watch.
One of the best television series today and sadly one of the most underrated and ignored. But I like it a lot and I enjoyed this season as I enjoyed the previous ones.
It started a little slow but it quickly composed and closed quite well even though I hate the cliffhanger.
It seems like most people found this season to be the weakest of Peaky Blinders' run, but I think it's the best since the first season. I do think that this is primarily because I found seasons two-through-four to be barely above average, and the change in pace and focus in season five drew me in and kept me interested. I hope that they can keep the ball rolling for season six (which, honestly, should be the final season).
Great character development but its balance regarding action and badass gangster situations was lost. Too much politics and modern society winks. I would have needed more of those Peaky from the "No fighting scene" or the "Don't f**k with the Peaky Blinders" moments. Worse season overall for me.
