Santa Barbara was a long-running soap opera centered on the lives of a wealthy Capwell family, living in Santa Barbara, California, and the other families such as the Lockridges, Andrandes and Perkins'. The show was created by Bridget and Jerome Dobson, the two writers that gave the show dramatic stories combined with comedy and romance. After the Dobsons were forced to leave the show in 1987, the soap changed, started focusing on different characters and the show was never the same. In 1991, the Dobsons returned to the show, but were unable to save the show, and then got fired again. In 1992, Pamela K. Long was hired as the new Head Writer and, in an attempt to save the show, she introduced a bunch of new characters and left out many original, which only buried the show deeper. During it's stay on television, the soap was at the bottom of ratings, although it was very popular. The show won numerous awards. In 1993, the show was canceled. 2137 episodes were aired. Although the show didn't have good ratings in America, the popularity of the show in Europe was amazing.
