Creator Kurt Sutter has found fewer openings to lighten the show as the story has darkened, and that continues to be the case. Still, we want to know what’s going to happen, even if the odds of anything good are about the same as the odds of the show ever winning the Emmys it deserves.

The season premiere alone places SAMCRO in three progressively darker, increasingly self-destructive set pieces sparked from confusion and ending with the gang indulging in some misguided retaliation.

After a relatively explosive season premiere, the next two episodes of Sons of Anarchy may frustrate viewers hoping for insanity in every episode. Sutter gets down into the dirty of a gang war again, and it’s a bit of a narrative letdown after the explosiveness of last season.

Sons of Anarchy could be the antihero drama to end all antihero dramas, but it'll have to shift into some new gears to go out in the blaze of ingloriousness it deserves.

While it will be interesting to see the way Sons tackles loose ends, in terms of how the series explores shades of gray, it looks like it’s all over but the shooting.

Nonstop action, drama, acting, violence and brutality. Always a twist in every episode and to the idiots whining about the realism? It's TV.....People get dumber by the day, I swear. This show is so action packed and intense and you can never predict what will happen next. It has a all star cast from different movies and I LOVE how chibbs is here from Braveheart and Tig from Waterworld! Both awesome actors and outstanding in this show. Expand

Unfortunately, in this, its final season, it appears we're now past the expiration date. You never want your favorite series to end, especially one that that hooks you with drama as edgy as it has been, you want it to continue as long as it STAYS good.

The show has always been about Jax, the protagonist in a modern-day retelling of a classic Shakespearean tragedy. And part of the allure has been the connection the audience has with Jax, an anti-hero we root for as he strives to keep his moral compass as injustice after injustice pounds on his soul. His son. Opie. Now Tara.

In the final scene of the season premiere, while epic in execution, we lose that connection as he executes some patsy fingered by the real killer. The emotional resonance we've felt in the past regardless of what gruesome deed he is doing just isn't there anymore, as he tortures and kills this poor guy. That being said, the montage of scenes set to a cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is film-making at its best.

Show-runner Kurt Sutter's original music selection continues to a show highlight. In the season's second episode, he overlays "Till its Gone" by Yelawolf for the episode's ending montage which adds significant emotional gravitas to intertwined scenes. It's worth just to see these ending montages "until its gone."

I used to love this show, but this is what happens in Season 7:

    Jax shoots someone.

Jax and the other Sons shoot a lot of people.

Jax: I’m on an insane mission of vengeance to pile up more
bodies than the Alamo and get all of us killed.

    Chibs: We’re with you, brother.

    Jax: I love you guys.

Chibs: We love you, too, man.

The Sons shoot a bunch of women.

A bunch of the Sons’ women are shot. Gemma’s birds, too. Jax looks pained.

Jax: I feel responsible, but everything I did was for my family.

Chibs: It’s not a psychopathic killing spree if you do it for
    your family.

    Jax: I love you guys.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After creating a new wake of enemies, SOA brainlessly wastes away the seventh season dragging out useless plot lines, committing heartless murders, creating more enemies, unnecessarily killing off major characters who actually mattered, and most disappointing of all leading two of the show's most evil characters to a simple bullet in the head, and a hypocritical, cowardly suicide. One episode after another, the show became more and more monotonous; this is truly the most poor, unsatisfying finale of a once impeccable series. Expand
