Season 2 improved a lot. Naturally the actors, writers and directors know the characters better, developments happen and what works and not is known better. Season 2 ends the cliffhanger from the previous season well, introduces the Tok’ra, flashes out the Asgard and has overall more good episodes. A lot of these deal with interesting moral dilemmas and some set up new arcs that will be continued later on. Sadly the Re’tu form the episode “Show and Tell” are never used again. I discussed this with a lot of people and it is always something like “I hate that they do not continue this arc as ot was amazing”. It is one of the biggest missed potentials here for the show. However I cant use this against this season. Again I say I like the worldbuilding, stories and characters. The SG1 team is one of my favorites as Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O’Neill, Amanda Tapping as Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as Teal’c and Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson are amazing and work well together. The support characters are also great I don't want to miss Don S. Davis as General Hammond, Teryl Rothery as Dr. Fraiser, Peter Williams as Apophis, Tony Amendola as Bra’tac and a lot of others. Also again the special effects were good and aged well. Lets continue with my favorite episodes before my final rating. “The Serpents Lair” gives a great conclusion to the cliffhanger and is also the strong first episode you need for a second season. “In the line of Duty” sets up the Tok’ra and has a good story. Lore expansion like it shout be. You get interesting new possibilities but also more questions. “Thors Chariot” deals with consequences and fallout as the SG1 team had made a mayor decision in season 1 episode “Thors Hammer”. Also some lore expansion for things to come. “Bane” is a Teal’c episode with an interesting menace and a nice change of paste. The two parter “The Tok’Ra” introduce a new faction, possibilities and characters. Jacob Carter played by Carmen Argenzizano is a good addition to the cast. “Spirits” and “Touchstone” deal with two sides of a coin of the same problem. What is morality worth in face of a far superior enemy that don't gives an f*** about your morals, society and life's. Both are well done and “Spirits” is one of my favorite episodes of the show. “The Fifth Race” sets up a lot and will have consequences felt through the whole show. “A Matter of Time” is another favorite and I like the idea, concept and execution. Also the concept will be used far later again. I like the episode “Holiday” but say it is equally a missed potential. This is a fitting description for “Show and Tell”. One of the best episodes with a good mystery and the Re’tu are a great idea that they sadly never use again. “1969” is a fun break in pace and has good humor. Also shows more of General Hammond. The final episode “Out of Mind” is another great cliffhanger that hooks me for the next season. Overall this is an improvement and I give a 9/10. It is full of great ideas, worldbuilding and good characters.
This is by far the best season of SG-1, indeed it is.
There are none episodes that I would consider as boring, because the story is by far much more advanced which I truly admire. I hope the amount of action can maintain in this tempo into the third season, because it's superb! This season truly it greater in every way than it's predecessor, and it does deserve a 9. Love SG-1 and their adventures in our galaxy!
The average score for each episode is: 8.51
