  1. The throbbing red heart of The Vampire Diaries remains the tension between Damon and Paul Wesley's Stefan, and their mutual attraction to whomever Dobrev is embodying at the time.
  2. The triangle--quadrangle?--becomes more twisted by episode's end. It leads to shocking violence against outsiders that deepens the tragedy and the mythology at the core of the show. "Game on" just might be the two most chilling words uttered this season.

This is the sort of show where "never say die" is written into the mythology--a good thing for several of the opening hour's apparent victims. I don't know how much longer The Vampire Diaries can keep churning stories at this feverish rate, but if this is your sort of guilty pleasure, you'd be crazy not to bite.

The second season is amazing. Nina Dobrev does an excellent job of portraying both Elena and Katherine. And by the way, Katherine is the best part of this whole season. She's so unbelievably bad that you just love it. If you do start to watch, I suggest you watch from the beginning. There is a lot of mythology that you have to keep track of. Anyway, can't wait for every Thursday night! Expand

  2. It's a little to 'goodies' and 'badies' and the whole vampire goes for high school girl seems a little tragic, if not downright creepy. There's little subtle nuance but it's watcheable. Expand
