The Walking Dead still has a strong grip on our imagination as it continues to aim at all three levels--brain, heart and stomach--with deadly accuracy.

All that commotion sets the season on a compelling path, hitting the road with a purpose. This is when Dead is at its best: journeying through postapocalyptic, fun-house-mirror America.

It’s bracing to see a series that has weathered offscreen changes, and all but redefined expectations for cable viewership (as reflected in its soaring ad rates), continue to take creative chances--proving it can still leap ahead not just by shuffling along, but at breakneck speed.

The episode moves along at a good pace, with only a couple of moments when the timing feels a little too coincidental.

It’s swiftly paced, disgusting--lots of shots of walkers chomping on screaming faces--and puts down some much needed signposts for the rest of the season. Consider us still hooked.

When death no longer holds the dread it once did, what's left is the fear of what life can become. And that is the boogeyman with which the characters must now wrestle.

I'm a fan of the comic who loved when Darabont and Nicotero got ahold of the property. Although it deviates from the comic(IE Daryl was created for TV) it still retains the graphic novels it's based on look and feel. If you haven't read the comic, do so, and make sure to get "All Out War" parts one and two on shelves now. Expand

Season 5 is starting very strong. I don't remember another season premiere from this series that starts off the season this strong. EverySeason 5 is starting very strong. I don't remember another season premiere from this series that starts off the season this strong. Every character has their place, and there is no more beating around the bush with their character development. You know exactly what each character is bringing to the table and I like that. I also love how brutal some of the scenes are in this premiere. Including one scene which seemed especially brutal for The Walking Dead, and I loved every second of it. I'm through the second episode now, and you'll be guessing the whole time who is good and who is bad. And that's one of the main reasons why I enjoy it. When you meet a new character, you have to ask yourself just like the characters have to, "Do I trust this person?" After all, the only thing more scary in a post apocalyptic world than zombies are the people themselves.

My personal thought on the series is that Season 1 was very strong. Season 2 was weaker, but still to my liking (although many people got bored of the farm). Season 3 is where the show really fell off for me. They found their footing a little bit in Season 4 even though there were too many slow episodes. I have high hopes for this season, and from the trailers I've seen, and the plot lines that I know are coming; I'm expecting Season 5 to be the best season yet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its hard to rate this show. While many people dont like season 4, i like it after the cast split up into different groups. You learn about the people, you start to care. And maybe thats the problem after the first 3 EPs so far in season 5.They throw in a bunch of nameless guys, add a priest and everything that happens is mostly action oriented or running arround for no reason.Plus, they split the cast a couple of times. For me, the dialogous are uninteresting in most of the scenes because of that. For example they took Carrol and Derryl out of EP 3.They are highly connected to each other while others dont have such a connection. The action is ok so far, nothing fancy.Sometimes the show is trying to shock you(for example in the scene where they eat the leg), but honestly, after the knifed kid(and the shot kid right after the knifed kid) nothing can shock the audience. So these attempts are doomed to fail, at least for my taste. What they avoid is zombies "sneaking" up to persons. That was stupid in the past, when a person looks in one direction, no zombie, he turns around and is grabbed from behind.Zombies dont sneak, im sorry. That is not in season 5 so far, big improvement. All in all seson 5 is ok so far. They can improve it further. For big fans, add +1 to my rating. Actually I'm a huge zombie and horror fan but this ????? Seriously it has nothing to do with Horror.
Sometime even the biggest fan will get it.
