It's a static look that makes these half-hour shows a bit tough to endure visually (don't try watching two episodes back-to-back). This format lends itself better to web shorts but it is fun to see Dr. Wallice's world expanded, especially for fans of comedy that doesn't telegraph a joke well in advance.
I really like Lisa Kudrow. This gal has guts in portraying really despicable people and making them human. But I digress, mainly because I cant believe THE COMEBACK is coming back. But I digress. The real reason I write about WEB THERAPY is that the best performance anywhere from any actress is on WEB THERAPY right now!!!
Gwyneth Paltrow is delivering a performance of remarkable restraint, while being totally over the top. Funny and so real and so sad. Her 5 minutes of screen time says more about America today than any of the indie films mentioned under LAGGIES combined. STUNNING!!!!
I absolutly love the show, one of the very few left to make me laugh, superb what they do with such a small amount of possibilitys from that camera angle, top notch show! im staying tuned
The cameos often are amusing, and so is Kudrow, but someone at Showtime evidently forgot to ask whether a one-joke webisode can or should be expanded into a one-joke TV series. This one feels like a strrrretch.
The episodes play out in a series of uneven vignettes: droll, ironic and twisted. It's great to see Kudrow back on TV, but this visually static and comically stunted gimmick wears thin pretty quickly.
Ambiently amusing but generally inert, the show is badly in need of a hard-edged producer to tell the series' creators that they cannot get by on charm, no matter how much of that precious quality is imported by such guest stars as Lily Tomlin, Rashida Jones, and Bob Balaban.
While the project had its devotees in its original form, the first four legs of a 10-episode flight feel stilted, claustrophobic and only fitfully amusing as stitched together for Showtime.
It's not just that Kudrow has failed to find a vehicle for her comedic talents since Friends; it's that the two-dimensional, often insufferable characters she's created are largely to blame for the failure of those projects in the first place.
The BEST new 30 min. comedy show on TV!!! So cleverly written and acted superbly by Lisa Kudrow. The guest stars are high caliber and extremely funny. I laugh all the way through it. PLEASE don't cancel it Showtime!
In the same vein as "The Comeback," Lisa's character is deliberately grating, and yet... while I don't think the show's for everyone -- particularly middle-aged straight men -- if you appreciate the incredible risk involved in the static screen and improvised scenes, and don't want to watch yet another "CSI: Wherever," I think this series is AMAZING! Kudos to Showtime for trying something new, because no one can make you cringe in awkward uncomfortableness like team Kudrow. Sometimes humor takes a different form than poop jokes.
Fiona Wallace is in many ways just like Lisa Kudrow's character (Phoebe) on Friends. At times, this show is funny (especially in the beginning when Fiona and Kip were having their session), and other times this show is humorless. As much as I want it to be one of my favorite shows, it just isn't. Great show if you're into Showtime comedies though. I haven't always understood them.
I tried, I really tried to like this but it's just too repetitive. Lisa's character, Fiona Wallace, is not Phoebe from "Friends" and I think that's what we all want. Instead she drops her voice and speaks with a certain pretentiousness that wears on you after a time. Her guest stars are all familiar faces so that's great but they just don't add enough to it. It's a half hour show that comes off as a one-trick pony, she needed to add a b-plot and additional settings. Note, this is specifically regarding season 1, so maybe she mixed it up further for subsequent seasons, we'll see...
Meh. Look, I love Lisa Kudrow, and I know the entire show is improvised, but some of the scenes are too long and stale, and can be cringeworthy at times. I applaud the attempt and I know it's improvised, but shows like Curb are improvised too, and they are able to deliver an actual punchline whereas Therapy doesn't. Not my cup of tea.
