Etrian Odyssey is a meaty adventure with dozens of dungeon floors and bone-crushing challenges to overcome with its competent turn-based combat. The story isn’t perfect, but I was happily kept busy with exploring the world, battling bosses, and feeding the hungry citizens of my hubtown.

The technically improved but fundamentally unchanged Classic Mode arguably remains the strongest aspect of this package, but whichever way you choose to tackle the latest entry in Atlus’ much loved, Etrian Odyssey series, the gameplay and decidedly old school dungeon crawling mechanics remain as strong and compelling as ever.

Etrian Odyssey probably didn’t need a second remake, especially with story and characters this unengaging, but the game underneath is still a superior dungeon crawler.

You know what you’re getting from it, but by the end of it, if you play enough games in this genre, you will probably be itching to play something a little more creative.

Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 has some flaws, certainly--the additions to the formula make it more accessible but don't ultimately enhance the game. On the other hand, it looks great, it retains the traditional Etrian Odyssey experience in Classic mode, and you still feel empowered after defeating a challenging FOE with only a sliver of health to your name.

Its nice enough to get a "retelling" of the story of the original game with nice cut scenes every once in a while. The mapping is easier than ever, but you can adjust how much the game helps you on that, so you can go back to original "do it all yourself" mode if you want. The game is easier than the original release, even on expert mode, but that's fine. I'm finding it offer just enough of a challenge to allow me to enjoy it. Overall, as an Etrian longtimer that doesn't have entire days to devote to the game anymore, I'm pleased with it. Full Review »

A game i should have liked, since i am an oldtime hardcore PC RPG fan, but if you think this game has anything to do with the classics, you need to change your hobby and begin stamp collections.

There is no challenge in this game. The gameplay mechanics are very simple and boring, all you have to do is grind like your life is worth nothing and you can throw hours upon hours in the garbage bin. Grind=win type of game, like most of Atlus trash, with a nice anime/manga presentation to appeal to the kiddies.

Just avoid if you value your time.

Dumb story, spongey FOEs and bosses, horrid 5th stratum, unbalanced classes, and an updated soundtrack that disappoints in its remakes of FM songs. Full Review »
