Although many will find the core mechanics in this game enjoyable, Contra: Rogue Corps is a really awful game visually, which destroys any possible resemblance to glorious titles in the franchise like Contra III. Undoubtedly, this is another missed opportunity for the saga, but also one that never tried to be true to the franchise, looking at Neo Contra as an inspiration instead.

Evolving from the gun’n’run type to the shoot’em up genre, Contra Rogue Corps misses too many shots. Everything looks like it’s 10 years late, from visuals to gameplay mechanics and sound design.

I see a lot of complaints about bad keyboard controls and about it being a bad port to PC and that it runs worse than an emulator. ControllerI see a lot of complaints about bad keyboard controls and about it being a bad port to PC and that it runs worse than an emulator. Controller games are rarely or never even playable with keyboard controls, many of them big titles that don't even support keyboard. It ran wonderfully on my PC with absolutely 0 issues, flawless performance.

Now, talking about the game - which more people should be doing in these user critics, seriously - it has lots of highlights. The voice acting, the character design, the artstyle, and the RPG elements of the game are great to say the least. I love the cutscenes, the plot that doesn't take itself seriously, and most of all, I love the Operation Room and all the loot and ways to upgrade your character. It has an old vibe to it that reminds me of PS2 games and it really is super fun to get new and better stuff to equip.

The visuals and the atmosphere of the game could be better, the level design could be better thought out (maps and enemies are very reused and become stale), and the gameplay could have a bit more depth. Nevertheless, you will have a good experience playing, at least, the first chapter. The missions are fun, the gameplay is action-packed and chaotic but simple to get a hold of, and the Bosses are fantastic!

The main disappointment for me were the difficulty levels. I played on Normal, and some maps were very easy, some maps were so difficult you had to retry like ten times and be lucky to get through them, some maps were very easy with super difficult parts, and all of these could come one after the other. It makes no sense and it just mounts up to a frustrating experience.

Let's start with the least bad first: The game isn't TOO BAD as Mighty no.9 (e.g.).
Let's talk seriously: This game is garbage even more on PC. This game looks like a bad mobile game port as it had been capped at 30fps. Not enough with that you can't use mouse or keyboard. But worst of all is the price tag: 40$ for a game with low budget, bad graphics, bugs everywhere, simplistic playability and a "meh" soundtrack.
if you had not read the title you would never have thought it was a Contra game, that says everything.
I mean, if I least the price tag would be between $5 and $10 I probably would not have seen it so bad (because the game isn't that boring nor bad), but it is a combo of many bad things.
Of course, you have lot of games too much better than this into the same genre. An entire franchise like the Lara Croft saga and, especially, too much cheaper.
    Score: 3.5/10.
