DiRT is making a comeback after getting rid of both Ken Blok and dubious car acrobatics. Instead, we get more of classic rally, rallycross, as well as some questionable disciplines like Landrush. [Issue#221, p.74]

Despite a multitude of improvements and a much larger offering than its predecessor, Dirt 4 somehow feels less spirited. Had "Rally" not existed, this latest game would've felt like more of an event, but in its current form it doesn't quite achieve the potency of its more focused forebear. [Aug 2017, p.106]

An accessible, customisable off-road racer let down by a half-hearted career mode.

Duality is the biggest flaw of Dirt 4. Fans of colorful arcade racing games will find it too dull and unforgiving, while hardcore rally enthusiasts continue to enjoy their DiRT Rally and Richard Burns Rally.

Codemasters provided preview code for DiRT 4’s PC version, but we were asked not to review it. The dev promised further graphical optimizations, both in visuals and performance, in a day-one PC patch. We’ll post an update here once we’ve put this PC update to the test. For what it’s worth, DiRT 4’s “unfinished” code got up to 60 FPS performance on our 4K machine (i7-4770k, 1080 Ti, 16GB RAM) with all settings maxed and driving in a rainy, particle-loaded course. [Review in Progress]
  2. Dirt 4 offers infinite replayability for stage rallies, and some good options in other disciplines. I’m hoping that in the future Codemasters is going to add some more courses for Land Rush and Rallycross (GRC, with its Red Bull addled, Vegas-XTREME antics and massive jumps would be a great addition), but for now I’ll be happily enjoying the bountiful content in the main game. Dirt 4 is right up there in the top tier with iRacing and Project Cars, and it has me loving low traction in a way I haven’t before.

"If you loved the challenge of DiRT Rally, then you can switch to the Sim Handling mode and have an experience that is even closer to the real deal than we managed to achieve with DiRT Rally".

Total lie. Stick with Dirt Rally.

Please don't reward this company with your money for this awful downgrade.

As an avid Dirt Rally player I was stoked for Dirt 4, but
Please don't reward this company with your money for this awful downgrade.

As an avid Dirt Rally player I was stoked for Dirt 4, but somehow Codemasters really f-ed up:

    1) The codriver calls. Too many nonessential calls, and too many calls come far too late, even after adjusting the Earlier v Later settings.

    2) The suspension physics. Suddenly I am involved in a flat spin because I tried to brake hard, with nt indication of grip lost in my wheel. Awesome! Oh, did you want to turn left? F yourself, time to go off line and into a wall.

    3) Their algorithm is showing. Within career stages there are clearly repeated sections, whose only difference is the van or stop sign or number of spectators on the sides. I was so excited for the My Stage feature, but I never thought it'd be the only way they'd make stages!

As someone who was super excited for this game, I'm horribly disappointed. Uninstalled, requested refund from Steam, and went back to Dirt Rally for some good fun. Codemasters, I am disapoint.
