The frozen survival strategy has been greatly expanded by this piece of DLC. It will challenge your tactical nous and stress resistance, so prepare your thickest socks and your warmest tea. You’re going to need them.

Frostpunk – The Last Autumn is the new expansion for the amazing city building survival game Frostpunk that was originally released in 2018. In this DLC you race against the oncoming apocalypse to build a generator necessary to support the survivors from London should the worst come to pass. If you enjoyed the original game or are not turned off by a somewhat dark narrative, then you will be happy to know 11 Bit Studios has done a great job with this expansion.

The Last Autumn is doing itself a disservice by calling itself DLC. It has an entirely new world to master, with a strong human element to make it truly unique. Be prepared for some devastatingly difficult challenges, but reap the reward if you make it to the finish – enjoying every step of the journey along the way.

It might not be the most innovative DLC as far as core gameplay elements are concerned, but the new types of hard challenges and dilemmas it offers, as well as its extremely interesting additions to the game's lore, make the Last Autumn a more than worthy addition to the Frostpunk universe.

The Last Autumn is new but difficult. With more challenges to overcome and new systems to wrestle with, The Last Autumn manages to capture the exact same feeling of Frostpunk without feeling like it's rehashing old ground.

Frostpunk: The Last Autumn DLC takes everything you have learned while playing through the brutality of the base game and tweaks the formula just enough to bring you a new feeling of dread, loss, and despair while remaining true to the brilliant mechanics and narrative of the game. You will undoubtedly fail time and time again until you understand how to perfectly manage your time and space – a feature that feels incredibly more prominent this time around. Bringing the focus towards the safety of the workforce is an interesting shift that pays off well against the impending deadline and creates for an effective extension of the game that breaths fresh new life into an already crisp experience.

While I hoped for a more narrative-centric experience this time, thanks to a plethora of new mechanics The Last Autumn is still a great add-on that enriches both the gameplay and Frostpunk’s lore. [03/2020, p.80]

The Last Autumn is the largest expansion of Frostpunk and it renews nearly everything ranging from buildings, technology to exploration and laws. You even can regard it as a brand new game. However, the ending is still as awkward as usual and it may ruin your mood.

A fantastic addition to the base game with great detail in both the story and the visuals. If you are a lover or fan of the game already, this expansion is definitely for you.

Hard decisions and consequences may await you in Frostpunk: The Last Autumn, but it’ a gorgeous experience with greener pastures that’ll still hook players in with an addictive loop of management in the face of extinction.

The Last Autumn demands a lot from you, but it's also a deeply engrossing evolution of the formula that Frostpunk is made up of, changing the core rules just enough to make all your previous strategies feel insufficient. Whether it's deciding on which resources to order and how to distribute them or which parts of your workforce to push just hard enough before they reach their breaking point, The Last Autumn maintains the morally challenging and consequence-riddled decision-making of the core game while giving you new laws to experiment with and master. It's a welcome return to an already fantastic strategy game that shouldn’t be glossed over.

Sending you back in to the - near - past of Frostpunk, the first major expansion, The Last Autumn, has you building the first generator; the machine which was used to keep you alive in the main campaign. While it plays a different ball game, one that's less about survival (at least in the beginning), and more about managing a group of discontent, unmotivated group of people, this retains all the strengths of the original, and is therefore highly recommended to fans.

The Last Autumn is as uncompromising and atmospheric as Frostpunk, but its real trick lies in making players relearn the game, and punishing them for underestimating it.

This expansion has its problems, but the moral dilemma as well as the complex consequences make up for it.
