With combat that’s as brutal as it is satisfying and a progression system that truly makes you feel like you’re mastering you’re the craft of kicking arse, Midnight Fight Express is a brawler that surpasses most and challenges those at the top of the genre.

Midnight Fight Express kicks serious ass. It is short, sweet, and packs one hell of a punch. The combat never gets old, and with it coming to Game Pass at launch I highly recommend it to anyone that likes action movies.

Midnight Fight Express is a short and brutal fight that doesn’t overstay its welcome. You’ll definitely come out of it with more than a few scrapes, but it’s all worth it just to watch the sun rise at the end.

What looked like a small, modest indie title, turned out to be chock-full of content. Midnight Fight Express is a brilliant game from a solo developer and an irresistible offer for anyone who enjoys fighting against overwhelming enemy forces. Here, you can use literally everything within reach as a weapon to overcome demanding challenges.

The game loop is incredibly addictive and you can return to any of the short missions at any time with all your upgrades, increase the difficulty, skip all dialogue and try to climb as high as you can on the leaderboard. The plot in the game is not the most interesting, but these games are addictive just not the plot. If you like games like: Hotline Miami, John Wick, Police Stories, Party Hard, you should try this game.

Midnight Fight Express is a brutal beat ‘em up whose only goal, despite a story with a weird plot, is to slaughter enemy after enemy. Really enjoyable in the early levels when each new skill learned improves the way you fight, it becomes repetitive when you try to complete the secondary challeng-es, which require players to retry a lof of times the same game sequences. Those seeking for perfect completion of the game, however, will find a tough challenge, as the unlockable techniques are quite a lot and all beautifully animated. To be played at a very loud volume to get even more exalt-ed.

Midnight Fight Express is a solid beat-'em-up. The base move set is enough to make you feel dangerous, but a fully kitted out character makes you feel invincible. The combat is appropriately crunchy, and the game doesn't wear out its welcome despite having a ton of brief levels. It fulfills that fantasy of being an unstoppable action hero, and it keeps that fantasy going thanks to the game's overall replayability. For fans of action titles in general, Midnight Fight Express is well worth checking out.

There’s a hell of a lot to like about Midnight Fight Express. While it has a few issues that are likely to bring you out of the experience, the fluidity and brutality of the combat will win you over. This is a game that’s simply a joy to play for the most part, with some neat ideas and a beat-heavy soundtrack thrown in for good measure. If you want to beat up large numbers of goons while feeling like a badass, look no further.

Midnight Fight Express takes a cool look, great music, and fluid combat to the next level in one of this year's best beat-em-ups.

Even if Game Pass wasn’t a factor, it would still be worth buying for just how cool it makes you feel, how good it looks in motion – and best of all: how it allows both of those feelings to be accessible to most players.

Midnight Fight Express is a beat 'em up that should feel familiar to genre fans, but does things so well that it doesn't matter. Fast and brutal, the game is a satisfying and bloody journey of revenge.

Midnight Fight Express is a solid beat 'em up that offers more than one would expect. While it would be nice to see some added accessibility options in future updates, it's still possible to get through each of the game's 40 levels and have a blast doing it. Beat 'em up fan or not, Midnight Fight Express is an awesome game with a great sense of humor and is absolutely worth picking up and throwing down.

Playing as Babyface with such smoothly animated mocap and fluent combo chains feels powerful. Being able to charge through levels, using everything in sight to bounce off goons like a martial arts master is an unstoppable sensation. Sure, the story isn’t that deep and doesn’t have the budget or quality of larger game studios, but the game compensates with very inventive fights. Midnight Fight Express is the John Wick experience in video game form.

Midnight Fight Express is a modern beat-'em-up with extensive motion-captured animations that bring its frenetic combat to life with wince-inducing satisfaction.

Midnight Fight Express wants you to be the actor, director, producer, and choreographer of your own action movie all at once, and it absolutely nails that aspect. As I made my way through the city, I found myself wishing the night would never end. But you know what they say, all good things must end and all that. At least I’ll always have neon blue hair Babyface.

Midnight Fight Express is an incredibly engaging brawler, but it slowly unravels as it comes to its conclusion. The storyline, levels and writing are nearly there but don’t quite gel, but it’s hard to judge it too harshly when the actual minute to minute gameplay – battering bad guys – feels so damn good.

Addictive gameplay challenges and a smorgasbord of enemies, game mechanics, and locations make Midnight Fight Express a superb indie brawler.

Midnight Fight Express is a good-looking beat em up that draws heavily on classic action and hardboiled movies to create a far deeper fighting experience than expected. If you are craving a direct, challenging and full of possibilities action game, look no further.

An interesting beat'em up that introduces some very cool ideas in a very brutal way. It's an engrossing trip of violence, albeit a lonely one.

Midnight Fight Express is an adrenaline-pumping brawler that gives the player considerable freedom of approach. Given their short duration, the levels are faced again without thinking too much, perhaps to take advantage of new skills or to get better ratings. The plot is clearly reduced to the bone and the technical profile reveals the limits of production but we are still faced with a product capable of teasing fans of the genre, without a shadow of a doubt.

While it has a few gameplay issues and isn't too long to beat at about 8 hours, the game still provides a great experience beat 'em up fans will especially enjoy.

Midnight Fight Express stands out as a worthwhile brawler. The exciting gameplay is well supplemented by an intricate story, which sometimes interrupts a well-paced level. While some enemy types and certain levels may be aggravating they do not overstay their welcome. The nearly infinite replay value may have you coming back hours after you replay the story to crush your high scores and unlock some sweet new costumes.

Midnight Fight Express is a title in which I can see a solid concept – make the player feel like John Wick. Plus, there’s focus and passion put towards that goal. It gives the player plenty of tools to take down their myriad enemies, including some entertaining uses of the stage elements. Of course, there’s a power fantasy element in any game where you can get your enemies hit by trains or crushed under shipping containers. Sadly, the stop-start nature of its stages brings the fantasy down a few notches, taking you out of the experience too frequently. That being said, for those that can hold onto it, it offers a fun thrill ride that keeps the tension going as you rush into the next fight.
  24. Midnight Fight Express is a game about kicks and punches with its own style. You may find yourself shaking your head as the game's soundtrack plays. But unfortunately, something is missing in gameplay.

Midnight Fight Express will largely appeal to movie fanatics, as the beat 'em up combat encapsulates the feeling of one big movie-action sequence with its adrenaline-induced gameplay.

Midnight Fight Express is an intense button masher brawler that gets repetitive too quickly, but it’s still fun and actually quite deep.

Midnight Fight Express attracts attention with its successful combat system, but can't keep the attention it draws for a long time. It's an action-packed and fun game, but unfortunately that's all there is, nothing more, nothing less.

Midnight Fight Express offers players the tools to recreate their own John Wick-inspired action scenes while sporting the skins of their enemies. The replayability factor is there for players wanting to achieve S-rank or complete all level challenges. Despite its fluid and engaging combat, it is not likely that I will return to the streets for more.

While Midnight Fight Express falters when it comes to keeping things fresh, there’s still enough of a nicely-twisted plot, impressive levels with great action setpieces, and a terrific techno soundtrack that goes alongside the fast-paced combat to keep things enjoyable overall. Beat-’em-up and/or fighting game enthusiasts and speedrunners will probably get the most satisfaction out of the game, but there’s still enough here for anyone that’s worthy of giving things a whirl.

Midnight Fight Express has a lot of personality and can be fun for a bit, but when a game is built almost entirely around combat, you need that combat to feel great, and here it just feels okay. Attempts to provide some variety are noble, but meet with mixed success despite some really cool set pieces. A great soundtrack kept me going until the end, but those wanting an irreverent brawler aren’t lacking choices in recent years, and Midnight Fight Express never fully manages to stand out from the crowd.

The main problems of Midnight Fight Express are essentially two, namely that the goodness of the game system ends up being penalized by some design choices, which ruin some moments of the experience, and that the combat system in some situations does not seem to withstand the title ambitions.

For those who savour competition and putting their skills to the test, there’s a lot to love here in Midnight Fight Express. Its pounding electric soundtrack pulls you straight into the red mist of the action and it even creates a gif of your most successful combos at the end of the level to share on social media. You might find though, once you return to the main menu, blood and bruises smoothed away, you’re as exhausted as Babyface feels.

I have mixed feelings about Midnight Fight Express. There are times when it clicked with me, and I tore through the levels, and others when I found myself sighing and hitting the retry button. There was no real middle ground. I was either entertained or completely annoyed.

Essentially, Midnight Fight Express’s approach to enemy behaviour echoes the approach of challenging retro arcade brawlers, but its more grounded fighting mechanics don’t feel suitable for the pace. And it’s this off-kilter balance between your character’s own ability, the effectiveness of environmental weapons, and the aggressiveness of the enemies that is ultimately to the detriment of its longer-term gratification.
