It's better than Ice Station Santa, yet not quite as good as Moai Better Blues. It remains small in both size and scope, while those who have stuck with the series since Season 1 will find that much of the actual gameplay is basic meat-and-potatoes fetch-questing. And yet...it's indecently cheap and, for all its minor flaws, the ongoing saga of Sam & Max is still the funniest game around.
-
This episode is the weakest this season so far as in terms of humor, but is the strongest in terms of puzzle solving. However, Sam & Max fans want the hysterical gags the series usually offers, so they may be a little disappointed.
-
PC PowerPlaySo without trying to sound too overjoyed by a game which satirises, and celebrates, a culture of nonchalant melancholia, it would be very difficult to hate this episode. In the words of Max: “You have a castle and a zombie army. What do you have to be so down about?” [Apr 2008, p.68]
-
The puzzles are just fine, but the gags just aren't as funny or as frequent as we've come to expect from the series.
-
PC FormatIt's a better game than last month's "Moai Better Blues," if only because the ever insufferable Bosco is missing in action. [Apr 2008, p.113]
-
PC Gamer UKThis is better (and easier) than last month's "Maoi Better Blues," but nowhere near as good as "Abe Lincoln Must Die." [Apr 2008, p.83]
-
After the high quality of the first two episodes of Season Two, it's disappointing to see the series misfire as it reaches its midpoint.
