The game brings fun, social gaming to the television by evolving a classic brand and a familiar play pattern with new game rules and 3D graphics to make the classic Monopoly game faster, livelier, and more entertaining than ever. The key innovation is same-time play, which allows every player to move at once, so there's never a dull moment. [Infogrames] Expand

  1. On the one hand, aside from the camera issue, it’s a solid adaptation of the board game with a unique twist. On the other hand, I still prefer to play the actual board game, and the lack of online support makes this an exclusive party.

Even though I'd rather play the actual board game, I can't deny the advantages of a videogame version. [Feb 2003, p.108]

This 3D, electronic version, despite all the new updates including animation, sound, various themes and options, it can't but help to turn into a "bored" game.

Pressing X to roll some dice isn't nearly as enjoyable as rolling them yourself.
  6. Delivers a zero-frills interpretation of a board game that is best enjoyed with friends gathered around a table, NOT a TV set hooked up to a PS2.

It's fun, you can change the rules, pick a board, and have a lot of laughs. Clearly these critics played it on their own due to lack of friends. It's a 'party' game. You'd hardly have much fun playing Mario Party on your own, I never have. It's fun ganging up on AI then slugging it out, or having a battle royale against eachother and being ruthless. It's faster than setting up the board and handing over ridiculous £4 rent isn't fiddly. Expand

Each and every one of these supposedly professional reviewers needs a swift kick in the head. What did they think Monopoly Party was? Mr. Each and every one of these supposedly professional reviewers needs a swift kick in the head. What did they think Monopoly Party was? Mr. Monopoly driving around in the racecar flinging irons at little dogs? It's the best video game version of the classic board game. And NO, it's not boring, since it saves you the drudgery of having to play banker, or calculate interest, or get frustrated trying to keep your loser sibling from cheating. If you love Monopoly the board game, you will love Monopoly Party at least twice as much (only in Classic mode though, its Party mode is just stupid). Heck, even friends of mine who hate video games love this one. Just like its name suggests, this is one phenomenal party game! (Here's a tip: the Xbox and GC versions are identical to the PS2, and their 4 controller ports save you from having to buy a Multitap.) Expand

Yeah alright, this game is no GTA: Vice City... but what do you expect. It is based around the classic board game, with a few new features. Take it for what it is, MONOPOLY and taking that into consideration it is one hell of a GOOD party game. Expand

I agree with Uncle V. When I have friends over, we usually play video games or board games. Now if we're all playing Madden and decide I agree with Uncle V. When I have friends over, we usually play video games or board games. Now if we're all playing Madden and decide that we want to play Monopoly we can just stick in the game and play... no set-up, no counting money, no waisting time. Don't get me wrong, I still like the board game version, but I also like the fact that we all can play a full game of Monopoly in half the time. "Pay no attention to what the critics say...
