    Nothing less than a masterpiece. The game looks absolutely phenomenal and Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe deliver a great accomplishment with their acting. Writer David Cage grabs us with his compelling and emotional story. There are a few downsides, gameplay is pretty much the same as Heavy Rain, but that doesn’t spoil the greatness of this game.

    The beautiful graphics and facial expressions bond you to Jodie, and the raw emotion embodied by Aiden is conveyed not via gameplay but by sound design and the reactions of the supporting cast. By the end of the game you are as connected to Jodie as Aiden is.

    The most gripping storytelling a game might ever have produced combined with one of the most basic and boring gameplay I have tried makes for a very strange experience from a critics point of view. But the tears, the stomach ache and the joy supersedes clunky controls and the bad illusion of choice.

    The term "interactive film" is thrown around often, but this is the first game to actually feel like one. Carefully maintaining a balance between its social context and supernatural elements, the game refuses to give into standard video game tropes and remains a mature and thoughtful story throughout. It’s poignant, thrilling and even a bit frightening at times.

    Bigger in scope and better executed than Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls doesn't manage to tell a great story all the time like its predecessor, although it's an experience you'll want to try.

    After playing it, you will feel extremely connected to Jodie, the game does everything to develop this emotional bond between the player and the protagonist. It suffers from some of the interactive storytelling limitations, but it’s the most balanced and accomplished game from Quantic Dream so far.

    Beyond: Two Souls is really difficult to judge with the usual tools because it’s such an unusual game. Let’s say that this one manages to impressively overcome its faults to deliver a truly unique experience. Gameplay in Beyond is only a way to include you, to make you participate to this emotional journey and to make you touch the heart of the game, its masterpiece: the story and all the narrative aspect that comes with it. The kind of game you remember for a long time.

    Beyond is both better and worse than its illustrious predecessor Heavy Rain. It features a more varied gameplay, a better story, talented Hollywood actors and outstanding graphics... but it also lacks something: the ability to make truly decisive choices throughout the adventure. Significant changes you can make story-wise are actually concentrated at the end. However, games of this type and this quality are still too rare to deny yourself the pleasure.

    Ellen Page has given the performance of her life and David Cage has penned the best script of his. When AAA releases are serving up so much similarity, Quantic Dream buck the trend and offer something different. Don’t put your PlayStation 3 back in its box just yet, or you’ll miss the studio’s biggest triumph to date.

    Beyond: Two Souls is the natural evolution of Heavy Rain, an epic adventure game with a great script, awesome dialogue and rock solid characters. Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe have done a splendid job acting for this game and David Cage has created an excellent title adding cool gameplay features to the Heavy Rain experience.

    Beyond is hands-down one of the most emotionally accomplished experiences I have ever had in a video game, and it’s enjoyable from start to finish. The controls and gameplay are tiresome, and they can be difficult to manage (or boring), but they’re of little consequence compared to the well-written story, the depth of the characters, and the empathy you feel toward them.

    Let's face it, if you're not into stories, you shouldn't buy Beyond: Two Souls. After all, player input is kept to a bare minimum and even then it manages to take you out of the experience, as it needlessly slows down the action. However, those who love a good and well-told story can't go wrong with Beyond: Two Souls. Both Ellen Page's and Willem Dafoe's acting is highly convincing and the visuals are appropriately jaw-dropping. Co-op is also a feature very much worth exploring, as it succeeds in turning this "interactive movie" into an effective two-player experience.

    At the end of the story, many of the faces encountered during this adventure will be kept somewhere, deep in your heart. Beyond: Two Souls is able to keep your emotions extremely high from the beginning to the ending(s). Unfortunately, David Cage didn't prove that it's possible to tell such a good story without sacrificing the gameplay.

    The acting is top-notch, the writing is good, the design and implementation of the life sequences is excellent, and the mechanics are functional and ask you to remain vigilant and timely. It’s just that it doesn’t feel as cohesively polished as one would hope, and there are limitations to the QTE concept, even when it’s expanded upon.

    Beyond: Two Souls’ imperfections don’t necessarily add to the title’s appeal, but this is still a game that you should experience irrespective of its flaws.     It’s like watching a great TV series. Out of the 12 hours you will only find about two hours of "real" gaming though, which might be too little for some. Insanely high production values, great story and good acting makes this worth getting if you want the best in interactive movies.

But it didn’t pack enough player action to make me want to replay it and see the many different possible permutations of Jodie and Aiden’s story, beyond what I’d already experienced.     While we could have done without the non-linear storytelling, it wasn’t hard to keep tabs on the scattered episodes of Jodie’s life. Beyond: Two Souls is certainly an overall advancement on the mechanics of Heavy Rain, just don’t expect it to be David Cage’s magnum opus… that’s still to come.

    With so many of the traditional elements of gameplay stripped away, like challenge and exploration, a tremendous amount of weight is put on Beyond's story to carry the day.     Much like Quantic Dream’s gritty 2010 PlayStation 3 title Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls fuses traditional film-based storytelling techniques with video game elements to create a new way of getting players emotionally invested in its characters and story. In the end, you make a truly profound choice, and see its consequences. There are multiple endings – none perfectly happy, each powerful.     Beyond: Two Souls is amazing. This statement can be taken positively as well as negatively. Positively, thanks to its unmatched cinematic action scenes. Negatively, because of the limited gameplay. What starts as an emotional, exciting story, ends up being a grotesque tidal wave of paranormal crap. That makes this more the spiritual successor to Fahrenheit than Heavy Rain.

    Beyond: Two Souls is a difficult game to grade - you have to answer a question: do you mind having the gameplay play a supporting role? Because an interesting story, great characters and some really exciting moments are most important here. Beyond is a typical Quantic Dream game and it additionally simplifies many aspects. I had fun experiencing this story, but Heavy Rain is a better and more interesting game.

    Don’t get me wrong, the game tells an interesting and emotional story, and the acting is top notch, but it does aimlessly plod along here and there.     For a work that prides itself on its story and your role in it, Beyond: Two Souls can’t help but make you feel a bit inconsequential in the ultimate scheme.     Even though this game is rife with innovation, the narrative is still heavy-handed, and that ultimately means that you need to suspend disbelief and fully invest in the story to get the most out of the game.     Beyond also seems to have less narrative choice than Heavy Rain, with your ending being mainly decided by a couple of large decisions toward the very end of the game. Choices up to that point can affect the specifics of your current situation, but the end result is rarely affected. Again, it’s similar to The Walking Dead: the end destination is the same, but how you got there might be a bit different to someone else.

    The gameplay has vastly improved for this new genre, the game mechanics and puzzle solving are unique and fun, the voice acting was incredible, and it is visually stunning. It’s very unfortunate that the story has continuity difficulties, unnecessary padding, too many boring stretches, and repeated plot devices, as the story is what’s supposed to keep you going in an interactive drama.

    Not a movie, nor a videogame, David Cage's Beyond: Two Souls lacks the defining elements of both kinds of media. On one hand, we have confusing and obnoxious controls; on the other, a plot full of movie clichés and weak characters. While the game demonstrates great art work and conceptualization, its frequent glitches and frame rate issues ruin some of its best moments. At the end, Beyond: Two Souls does not fulfill the promise made by Heavy Rain, and it remains as a flawed, albeit interesting experiment.

    Jodie suffers, she fights, she cries and she loves – but over a long period of time you’re reduced to being a spectator. There is no emotional link like towards Clementine in Walking Dead or Ellie in The Last of Us. There are moving moments and the visuals are impressive, but David Cage sacrificed his trademark design with its fascinating emotional focus for the sake of lackluster action.

    While Quantic Dream tackles subjects usually only handled within the realm of film, it lacks the grace, subtlety, and class of its celluloid counterparts to do it properly. Technically, it’s a triumph, with some of the best looking graphics and facial capture I’ve ever seen in a video game, but if you’re going to put so much emphasis on the story, it better be damn good, and honestly, it just isn’t.

    With Beyond the scope is expanded awkwardly without really refreshing the mechanics to support it. The fantastical is brought back into the fray thanks to Cage being unleashed and whilst he drives the narrative with that seed it loses the plot because of it.

    Beyond: Two Souls takes the time to build up towards a few memorable climaxes. Unfortunately the story takes a few sloppy and sudden turns, that miss the point completely. It also doesn’t take long for the game mechanic to be nothing more than boring, mindless quick time events. Players and viewers aren’t being taken seriously enough by Beyond.

    After completing Beyond: Two Souls it’s understandable why this is one of the most divisive games around. Even now it’s difficult to say whether we enjoyed it or not, it’s certainly an interesting game, and does have some nice ideas. So despite a story that feels disjointed, tonally uneven and a mid-section that feels completely out of place, it’s something that is different enough from the norm that maybe, just maybe it’s worth picking up.

    Quantic Dream has come a long way since Indigo Prophecy, but some things haven't changed. The presentation has gotten much better, but Cage's writing is still not up to snuff. There are definite highs in Beyond, but not all of the elements of the game or the story work as a cohesive whole.

    Beyond: Two Souls is an interesting experience I don't regret making. But still, there are too many problems to forgive – structurally, story-wise and in character. Even people who didn't mind the issues with Cage's earlier games, Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, will have a hard time turning a blind eye to Beyond's shortcomings.

    All I can say is that in spite of its sometimes dopey script, its slavish dedication to control mechanics that don't always quite fit, and its unrelenting desire to stuff in as many obvious blockbuster movie references and cliches as a single game can hold, I enjoyed the experience of playing Beyond: Two Souls.

    Beyond is a tale of squandered potential. With acting talent such as Page and Dafoe on board, music from legendary composer Hans Zimmer and visuals that give the PS4 launch line-up a run for their money, it’s such a shame that when it comes down to it, the incompetent story and poor gameplay mechanics leave a lot to be desired.

    Never before have I felt like such a passive participant in a video game, my choices and actions merely icing on a dense, multi-layered cake. Playing Beyond is a memorable experience, yes, but a good video game it is not; and while the credits were rolling I admit to thinking I would have been happier to sit back and watch a movie version that was eight-and-a-half hours shorter.

    Heavy Rain worked because it was a police procedural, a genre that's all about narrow horizons and methodical reassurance. The tight confines of Quantic's style suited it well. The same delivery just can't contain Beyond's epic scope, preposterous premise and high-octane action. You're left feeling detached from it, and its component parts have nothing more than a frail spine of story holding them together.

    This is a far more systemically diverse game than Heavy Rain, and its story is certainly more believably told through Holmes, Dafoe and a fine supporting cast. Yet this is a game almost entirely bereft of tension, one in which failure goes largely unpunished and is almost always inconsequential. There is emotion here, but it’s felt passively, as spectator instead of player.

    For all the complaints that can be leveled at Beyond -- and they can be leveled in feckless abundance -- the overwhelming problem with it is that it's just plain boring.     Beyond: Two Souls is a capital failure as both a story and as a game. The adventure plays itself and the player is left to push the right buttons in the right order. The story you are rewarded with is a mess of odd writing and poor directing choices from a game creator that obviously wants to create great art but seems to be incapable of doing so. Even fans of Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain should prepare for what is unfortunately a monumental disappointment.

Glances shift awkwardly. Character models fidget. This is about an eight hour game, but I’d estimate two or three of those hours are pregnant pauses.

It's definitely worth the money reminds me a bit of the movie Carrie. Overall I recommend it I would say more but I'm not going to spoil things just know that you're not just buying a game...
