    Welcome to Bard's Gold; the court jester of Ser Grindalot and Ser Diealot. This tricky platformer requires that you collect as many gems as possible throughout the various worlds, which, upon your inevitable death, you may spend on upgrading your character so that he may fail less hard next time around. It is a concept that appeals to me but may not be everyones cup of tea; there is a fairWelcome to Bard's Gold; the court jester of Ser Grindalot and Ser Diealot. This tricky platformer requires that you collect as many gems as possible throughout the various worlds, which, upon your inevitable death, you may spend on upgrading your character so that he may fail less hard next time around. It is a concept that appeals to me but may not be everyones cup of tea; there is a fair amount of repetition to be had here, particularly with the limited enemy types. If you need a bit of motivation, the trophies are well devised in that they give you that extra little reason for "just one more play through".

    The only real gripe I have with the game is that the double jump regularly doesn't register and you find yourself falling several floors, occasionally to a cheap death. This bug renders the Tower of Patience impossible: whilst I haven't found a way to die there, I have reached the first floor only once in about 500 attempts, all because I cannot make that one all-important jump. You'll see what I mean...

    Despite that niggle I find myself coming back regularly for more, and whilst I haven't finished it, I'd say that Bard's Gold is a nifty addition to any retro gamer's collection and definitely worth the $7.29 price tag.    … Expand

    Bard Gold is a decent little indie title, but it’s one specifically aimed at people who are into these roguelike games. Side scrolling, with a little dose of death and progression goes a long way to keep the game entertaining enough, but it just doesn’t do enough different or interesting things to garner much attention.

    A scrappy but accomplished take on the whole Metroidvania shtick, Bard’s Gold marries tactical platforming action with great progression systems to create an effort that is highly worthwhile for fans of the genre.
