    Defenses are pointless, goalkeepers are a sack of potatoes. And scripting even stronger. I can't believe how bad a game they made this year. Unbelievable. I will try pes.

    Same BS as last year but just slightly different graphics. SCRIPTING is still here like who doesn't love to lose 1-2 with 10 shots against 2? Who doesn't love it that you suddenly can't pass from 60th - 90th minute? In the meanwhile your opponent can pass from one side of the field to the other side with sokratis. Who doesn't like to lose whilst being better? In this game, you can! SkillSame BS as last year but just slightly different graphics.     Unfortunately EA made the same mistakes again. There are too many scripted scenes, where you have barely no chance to get the ball or to avoid goals while playing against the CPU. Sometimes the script makes your goalkeeper and the defence line ridiculously weak only to change the result of the game. This is and was frustrating. The presentation is still great.     The game is again interrupting the matches so hard, it´s terrible. I remember it wasn´t like this in Fifa 12. At least not recognizable for me. I recently played it again and it feels so much better then the at least last 4 games.

    EA sports you're like an ex girlfriend. I only remember the good times, but once we're back together all the bad memories come back. Every time I hope you've changed, yet now I realise it's not you, but me. I need to move on and let go, you will never be what I look for in a video game...

    Surely with so much complaint about Scripting EA would take note and take steps to move FIFA 18 in the right direction? But no, same scripted BS that we've seen in at least the last 5 iterations. No point playing a game which largely determines the outcome before a ball is kicked.

    84 Score? Its all about the money, money, money. Game is like every year, same engine, laggy, non fluid, poor gameplay, no joy at all. PES 18 is smooth like butter vs this. Boooooring.

    As usual its just another lazily game that's been given to us. Defence is appalling, players move like they're 50 stone, can't do anything about pace. Worst FIFA ive ever played. Trying to become a football simulator like PES haha, no. Stick to arcade style play. No one plays FIFA for realism. We play only because the licenses.

    Fifa 18 feels excactly like the earlier versions of the game. I personally feel that they try way too hard to make it "feel" professional to the it takes all your freedom away. If the game feel like you do something that is't what they want they slow you down. Long passes and and heading duels you loose all control and have to look at your game wait it out for you.     Not worth the upgrade. Still has all the same problems as last years version. A certain other game by Konami has raised the bar now and EA can't match it where it counts, on the pitch. The Journey is like a mediocre tv series with a bit of gameplay interupting now and again. Excessive load times in career mode. Bring back the virtual pro EA.

    PES devs deserve the praise & cash after all these years (though they also deserve better than Konami as their boss...) but I find it pretty amazing that this is the year so many are finally flocking to it, after literally Decades of arguing with FIFA stans that EA's game was trash & that PES was where it's at. I'll admit even now, PES' classic feel on the controls cannot be beat.... But a football/soccer simulation that does not make. The truth is that PES has no midfield game. Matches are generally just 90 mins of counter attacks, through lobs to the wing, a flurry of shots, and repeat until the whistle blows. Any good PES player will churn out 25 shots per 10 minute game like clockwork and the only way to stop it isn't with actual defense on the field, but by memorizing defensive settings combos in the gameplan menu which apply the same to pretty much every team regardless of personnel & essentially functions as a game within a game. PES is fine, but PES is PES... It's got it's own rules & internal logic and if you abide by them, you'll have fun because it feels nice to play. But again, that doesn't make it a football/soccer simulation.

    I'm seeing a lot of people complain about FIFA's pace, but it is much more like the real thing. You actually have to think about how you're going to move the ball up the field & make the most of your possessions. There is actual incentive to pass Backwards sometimes, like in real life, to reset play... Try that in PES in a competitive game, I dare you (you'll have it snatched from behind by the opposing striker and give up a goal). There are different ways to approach offense unlike in PES where every good player sets the same 3 FWD formation regardless of the personnel because they know the game is so heavily offensive that playing any other way is pointless. In FIFA you can actually play team defense based on field positioning instead of feeling like you're skating on ice with no choice but to try to steal the ball 1 on 1, at which point it's off to the races again. If all this makes FIFA "too slow" for people then I really have to question those people's understanding of the sport.

    None of this would mean as much to me if the game didn't feel right on the controls, which is exactly why I've stuck it out with PES & dealt with all the BS (like bad servers & lack of licenses, uploading kits & stadiums & all that) for all these years. There is no doubt that the physics & feel have finally improved to the point where it's a no brainer for me. And while the controls may not be as loose & Mario-like as PES, it's certainly better than any FIFA in a long time, especially last year's where it felt like all the players were puppets connected by string. This time passing & dribbling do feel nice and individual players off the ball actually move around in a more realistic way, unlike any other Fifa or PES I've seen, which seemed robotic when you look at them from a distance. If you don't believe me check out the demo & play it for yourself.

    I have yet to get into all the different modes but from what I've seen from FUT it is nice and let me tell you the licenses, presentation & feeling of real life connectedness with sport globally do not hurt, especially after all these years of PES. If I come across any tragic gamebreaking circumstances I will come back and change this review, but until then I'm leaving a 10 because all these 0's, 1's & 2's are a joke and need some balancing out. My only real concern at this point is that I haven't exactly found the right difficulty setting, though I've settled on Pro for now (1 higher than the default Semi-Pro) and it generally feels right.    … Expand

    FIFA has been consistent throughout the years of being a great game to being one of my worst games. In an attempt to combine mediocre gameplay to a decent story campaign. It just doesn't meet the standards of "fun". It's clutterd, and boring. Same game since FIFA 14. Any the ratings get lower, and lower each year. Notice the pattern?

    The Game is like a trash really .. goalkeepers are **** .. defense is **** everything is **** .. PES this year is much better .. the gameplay is awesome and graphic is brilliant

Hundreds of thousands of players spend 2-3 hours of their time to play only one game each evening struggling with the broken mechanics.And these efforts do not always guarantee success. Almost 2 months as EA sports knows about this issue. It released 4 patches to the game, and not one of them did solve this problem. Players tested all possible reason and the occurrence of this error, reported all this information to support, but they do nothing.

    They spend their resources to repair the small problems of the game modes which bring them money for the donation. But it seems they forget that we already paid for the game, and had to get a quality product. We will do our best to make our voice heard and make executives who are responsible for what is happening respect their customers and players.     I've read a lot of the reviews and one thing that is for certain is that all ratings above 5 are paid by ea. The game is not realistic at all, its not fun playing, the bugs are taking all the fun away from the game. The anger you get from losing matches/get scored on VS the "joy" of winning and scoring yourself is not comparable. Defending without AI would be much better, but EA failed to actually make it viable, this game is about who can score the most goals, and ofcourse pace.

    I've created this account only to review Fifa 18, but as I am writing i realise more and more that EA doesnt give a **** about its customers at all. As a huge fifa "fanboy" I am just sad that EA could release this game. I'm gonna write a list with things that must be improved at some point, cause this isnt unbearable.

    PingPong passes( not skillbased at all)

    Horrible dribbling and ballcontrol(the times i do get past, is because of the defending in this game is a disaster)

    Random goals (9/10 goals come from mistakes either by AI or player)

    GKs extremely unbalanced (were **** before patch, have improved but are some times way to op, and sometimes way to sh*t)

    Shooting are totally random.

    Set pieces are useless, shooting from freekicks wont get you any goals. gks are superop when it comes to saving freekicks.

    Pay to win (you wont get **** in your packs, you get to few packs for the amount of cash you spend.)
    Laggy menus (just how?)

    Players looked much better in fifa 17 and earlier fifa's than 18

    And the defense is just f*cked up.

    Its worth mentioning that I am usually a very good player, with dribling as my strongest feature. but this fifa, i cant stand. Everything is bull****, if someone scores one of those easy goals im quitting ASAP. Its not even worth trying when you actually have no control of the outcome of the match, even tho you are miles better.

    I wouldnt recommend anyone to buy Fifa 18, hopefully Fifa 19 will be better.

    Aside the nice visuals, array of modes and licenses lies a gameplay that's so overly assisted it barely feels like you or your opponent are having any real significant input at all.     Not a huge improvement from FIFA 17. I'm more of an offline player, as I have never been a fan of Ultimate Team so my review will lie solely on The Journey and Career Mode. Let's start with The Journey, this was the biggest improvement for me, however could've been better. Then this leads me to Career Mode. They brought up the new transfer negotiations and made it seem huge. As I originally predicted, this got tedious extremely quick. Besides that, it's the exact same as 17. No real improvements, especially considering the wishlist for that mode has always been in-depth, and some of the ideas people have are amazing.

    Besides the negative, the play of the game is amazing. Defending got a lot better, players actually make runs, and overall the flow of the game feels extremely nice. I just with EA would focus on the offline modes as much as they focus on Ultimate Team.    … Expand

    I've been playing FIFA since FIFA 03 and back then a new game made sense because you couldn't download an update. The game has seen no valuable improvements since FIFA 14 and I could even argue as far back as FIFA 10.

    These critics don't speak for me and the only thing I can do is speak with my wallet, which doesn't even matter because there are always millions of kids wanting to play as Ronaldo. So all I have is this terrible review that no one will care about.    … Expand

    Unfortunately for a finished game and not a beta version, this game has too many bugs. I honestly don't care for the ultimate team and multiplayer components as much and it is obvious that EA doesn't care for customers like me.
    In Career mode, if you switch off the first transfer window, which is the only way to ensure that you get accurate team rosters, the Bosman/free agency signing    Unfortunately for a finished game and not a beta version, this game has too many bugs. I honestly don't care for the ultimate team and multiplayer components as much and it is obvious that EA doesn't care for customers like me.
    In Career mode, if you switch off the first transfer window, which is the only way to ensure that you get accurate team rosters, the Bosman/free agency signing system breaks. So if you then sign a pre-contract with a player in the January Transfer window to join in the next Summer, the player doesn't join. This is just one such instance of a basic game breaking flaw that is impossible to have been missed in testing. If EA testers can miss this bug, then it is blatantly obvious that they don't even test their Career mode. Adding a stupid animated signing sequence, which gets old after the first 10 times you do it doesn't matter if the transfer system is itself broken.
    Oh and if you add people to your transfer list, no one wants to sign them. No reviewer manages to catch these bugs, so it is obvious that the reviewers don't really play career mode. Unfortunately, EA just doesn't care for me as a customer and this product is just not for someone who like single player gaming.

    - heavily smells the capitalism - it is very easy to score but even pros are not able to defend- thrust me I am (was in previous FIFAs) a pro player - in 17 I win 9/10 on H2H in 18 maybe 5-7/10 (but take a look at the points and i do not think the mistake is in me
    - such players like Isco does not get cosmetics (like long hair) come on Is it too hard to make such a thing in a Fifa game? Where there is no need to make improvements?
    - oh and Ascensio and Ben Arfa? Did you even see them in real live? They are not no name players.
    - Journey is stolen from film series Goal Living the dream
    - FUT is still very pay2win (lower squads suck) and you are often paired with players with huge lags - I have 1000 mb/sec sooo I do not think this would be my problem.

    All in all from 2015 (in the next gen era ) I loved all fifas but now this 18 is **** as fxxk in all way.

    The pacing is stodgy, the story is frustratingly slow, the defending is near-impossible, and the game feels incredibly scripted, especially offline. Licenses, music, graphics, and other less important features have been improved, but the gameplay left this user incredibly frustrated the entire time.

    Career Mode:
    Yet another year    If you are considering buying this game, don't , it's more trouble than it's worth. As a FIFA veteran I really loved to play the game around christmas every year, but this year I completely stopped playing the game because of how boring and unrewarding it is to play. I'll try to cover as much as I possibly can to give you a detailed review of this game.
    Career Mode:
    Yet another year where EA failes to freshen up career mode, both manager and player career. Almost no gameplay changes compared to last year. It has some new cut scenes added, however, they soon get repetitive and boring and annoy you most of the time. AI is atrocious like every year. To give an example: Top teams would sign 3-4 world class players for the same position( Bayern signs Dybala, Lukkaku and Cavani, while also having Lewandowski at ST position). After a couple of different career play thorughs you'll notice the patterns behind top teams' signings even to an extent that some players wind up in one team 99% of the time( Dybala at Bayern).
    Ultimate Team:
    Although they added a lot of gameplay features this year, one being Squad Battles, one can't help but wonder what could've been if they actually polished the mode properly. Ever since FIFA 17, Ultimate Team is completely differen to other modes, gameplay wise. Players feel sluggish, like I'm controlling 300 pound sumo wrestlers, not professional and agile athletes( no offense to sumo guys). Also, there are way too many instances when the game adjusts the gameplay in order to favor one player. Sometimes I can see that my opponent is a lot better than me and he should win, but, with FIFA's help, I manage to scrape a win or a draw, the opposite scenario is also true.
    Ranked matchmaking( Weekend League) requires you to play 40 games on weekends against totally random opponents and your finish is determined by the amount of wins you got. Sometimes you would get e-sport professionals, and sometimes you would get 3 year olds who got into a match by mashing buttons and chewing their controller. You can actually search for examples where e-sport professionals would exploit the system to get easier opponents and finish higher.
    Gameplay:
    The game is automated way too much. Trying to manually defend with your defenders actually punishes you, so everyone is using high stamina midfielders and chasing your players with them, instead of trying to use their centerbacks.
    There's also a lot of input lag, even in offline modes, making the game very unresponsive and it's one of the reasons why the player feel like tanks.
    I really hope I have helped you make up your mind about this game. In my opinion is it not worth a penny, I would match rather buy PES 2018( you can always import real teams, kits and badges, it's very easy, google search it) as the gameplay is just that much better.    … Expand

Unrealistic gameplay is the result, that is spectacular for kids, but not for users they will have a real football game! Football is not alone offense EA!!! The offense is extreme overpowered! All second long shots goes into the goal, and fast players overrun all defense player! Players how Ronaldo, Bale and so on are total overpowered, that is extremely unreal!     Fifa 14 was the first of its series I've been playing up until Fifa 18 recently. Over 4 years of offline game plays (2 games a day on average) with simple matches and league matches (BVB to win bundesliga), I can only see EA's mess in fundamental gameplay to get worse. I'm fully aware that it's a simulation of football experience after all, so it can never be perfect. It's easy to get a sense of AI playing against you, but FIFA 17 and 18 had been very different. I appreciate the fact that EA have introduced new things into the game. But it seems to me they are currently very comfortable to put 90% of their effort to work on surfaces (like appearances of players) than on the fundamental experiences.

    Before FIFA18, the game have been fluid, slick, challenging, and acceptably balanced (but still not good enough). I have been able to get past defenders if my player's position was right and the dribbling was good enough. I can make series of forward and backward passes (although annoying sometimes) to dominate the game and win. FIFA 16 was too flat and too easy to get goals (unrealistically). Besides statistics that disappeared, FIFA 17's opponent AI was too hard to get past and the way it wins the ball and defends are too hard for any football fans to understand. But at least FIFA 17's player's defenders AI are smart enough to defend against opponents. That means you can win the game (patiently) if you are tactically robust. So patience paid off at the last 3 - 4 minutes of the game, which partially ruined the "joy" I've always had with FIFA.

    Now, FIFA 18 simply get rid of everything you know about gameplay. Passings are so slow that I nearly see the ball to stop by itself half way between players. When I made good tackles or interceptions, my player sometimes sprint on a threadmill and let opponent takes the ball. My players who are better positioned to win air balls loses everytime or simply being paralysed. Players like Aubameyang or Sterling or Kane can never dribble past defenders of opponent with 1.5 stars lower ratings. It still takes up to 3 actual seconds for my players to reuse the passed balls or to shoot. Some good (but not among the best) players like Dahoud can make 8 shots (all outside the box because there's no way to get inside) just to hit the woodwork 7 times IN A SINGLE GAME (yes, the players can be that accurate). FIFA 17's opponents who can outpace player's defenders so easily are nothing new in FIFA 18 (Yes, my Aubameyang was traced back by Mertesacker on through ball and tackled backwards so easily). It now empowers opponents by having them able to make clearance in a rush and ends up being a killer diagonal ball WHILE MY DEFENDERS ARE PARALYSED. And right at that moment, when I try to take control over defenders, I ended up controlling my CAM. Then now matter how I can keep calm in my box, nothing works. Containing or jockeys only slow them down just to make a good passing to its teammates and score. Trying to win the ball will risk (90% chance) conceding penalty. FIFA 18 no longer allows free kicks, corner kicks, and penalty kicks for players to score. By the moment the stadium announces additional time, my players can no longer make passes and they are up against the pace and flawless performance of REAL MADRID even if I'm playing against 1860 Munich (IN THE 90th MINUTE).

    This is my worst football game I've ever played (including PES I've been playing for nearly a decade before switching to FIFA).    … Expand

    Needs a good patch asap.
    There are too many scripted scenes, where you have barely no chance to get the ball or to avoid goals while playing against the CPU. Sometimes the script makes your goalkeeper and the defence line ridiculously weak only to change the result of the game.

    Even though the gameplay at launch was really good, EA managed to mess everything up with the latest patches. Gameplay now is stale and boring, a clear iteration (and quite worse) of FIFA 17. By far the worst FIFA of the last few years.

Promises great rewards for higher ranking by winning against certain squads. I fought my way every week, playing all the games, my lowest ranking was Gold 1 while my highest was Elite 3. When it comes to the rewards it's your usualAfter playing this game since it came out, I've been disgusted to see how Fifa & EA spit in the face of all of their fans.     I know that this review is coming a bit late, but I just want to point out how every fifa game is pretty much the same now.
    Graphics of the game look like they come from fifa 14. The game play feels the same like all other fifa games. It's competitor Pes 2018, has much better graphics and game play (not to mention that it has lower budget than fifa 18). This just proves how greedy EA has become.

The biggest problem in my opinion is that EA is putting too much effort in The Journey and FUT that as a result all the other modes are slacking. Changing games from one second to the other, what annoys me the most is when my players seemingly run automatically in a different ways to what i'm inputing. Or defensive players I'm not controling literally moving out of the way to open up scoring chances for attackers. In other situations you have pretty much no control. It generally ends up feeling like not matter what you do, outcomes are changed depending on what result the game aims for. Started the journey and didn't even stick with it for more than half an hour before getting bored with it. Never played oline so I can't assess that, this is just too horrible a game for me to bother. And of course the usually complaints about just generally bad gameplay, horrendous controls and outdated looking graphics.
    I'm guessing it's all about the hardcore addicts spending massive amounts of money on the online features, never actually looked at those so that part doesn't really into my opinion of this game too much. First EA game i bought in a long while, and the last. The usual quality you can expect from them.

    Why do we keep coming back for more? It’s really only a lack of any real quality competition from other developers in the football simulation arena and EA sports know that so they continue to produce a sub par game and we the hopeless dreamers continue to buy this mess each year in hopes that finally we will get the game we deserve for paying £50+ every year for as long as we can remember.

    If you’re gonna buy this game, do so with very low expectations so you’re not disappointed. Other than that you could try PES but don’t be fooled by reviews, that game is a mess too.    … Expand

    I think this may be my most hated FIFA. I have loved FIFA every year, but this year they have changed a lot in terms of game play. Players feel clunky and hard to maneuver, defense is made a lot harder to control than in previous years, AI is an utter tragedy as well as mostly unresponsive and unhelpful, and shooting is still ridiculously unlogical (even though it was a lot worse on firstI think this may be my most hated FIFA. I have loved FIFA every year, but this year they have changed a lot in terms of game play. Players feel clunky and hard to maneuver, defense is made a lot harder to control than in previous years, AI is an utter tragedy as well as mostly unresponsive and unhelpful, and shooting is still ridiculously unlogical (even though it was a lot worse on first release but changed with update). The two main criticisms of the ones I named above are AI and shooting. Regarding AI, I understand that most of the game play should be controlled by the user, but in some situations the AI should compensate for minimal errors carried out in the flow of game play. Some of the situations I have noticed are such that a pass that is maybe half a foot off target may often make it is as if the player completely ignores the pass altogether as if he isn't apart of the play or another situation such as an attacking player has beaten a user controlled defender but runs directly into the path of an AI controlled defender and this defender does nothing to stop the attacker. Shooting is the other criticism that is unrealistic at times. Players should not be able to do a complete 180 and be able to get perfect contact every time or be able to pull off unrealistic wonder shots from ridiculous angles with pressure on them. The only reason I am giving this game a 3 instead of a 0 is because all of the available game modes, graphics, and overall presentation of the game are just as great if not better than any other FIFA in the past. If it says anything, I have played FIFA for about 10 years and this is the first time I have wanted to stop playing or looked into playing PES as an alternate to FIFA.… Expand

In fact I believe the game to be a major step backward from fifa 17. The reality of the user reviews compared to critics reviews, rubber stamps the obvious fact that you guys merely re-word the same old reviews without actually exploring the game yourselves and you are obviously too worried about ramifications of negative reviews from EA & Sony. There is little point in detailing the obvious flaws of the game; there are too many to list and we all know what they are. I have enjoyed FIFA for years , some versions more than others but I am shocked at the blatant laziness by EA to re-deploy the same themes & templates in different guises. Its almost as though they have dared to see how little effort they could put in whilst taking their loyal followers money. But the real culprits here are the critics - EA have just mugged us all off but the critics should have done the right thing and appraised the game for what it really is. EA will no doubt e laughing - they can clearly put out any old sh*t and they will still be lauded by the very publications that owes their articles to they readers andante their sponsors. Goes without saying that after literally decades, I will never buy fifa again ( and I do mean that!!) . I hope other follow suit. I have given 1 as the music is quite good..

    So in summary - awful game , def the worst ever. Let down by FIFA but more so by the publications that we rely on to advise us.

    THE WORST! they only make efforts to please those that play FUT cause there's so many suckers spending money to buy packs. The gameplay is so scripted and annoying. They do it every year give us a good demo and a completely differnt game when its released EA is the worst just go PES guys at least the gameplay makes sense

It's a mockery of it's players, and tbh it makes me furious. I will not buy another FIFA game until they remove scripting/momentum.     I've only played Fifa for a few weeks now and it definitely has degraded in a few areas, where 17 was better at. Mainly your AI team mates make ridiculously stupid runs and mistakes on defense. I've been playing it on legendary, I already adjusted all the sliders and am using a set up someone recommended. But I still find it ridiculously hard to score sometimes and it seems like theI've only played Fifa for a few weeks now and it definitely has degraded in a few areas, where 17 was better at. Mainly your AI team mates make ridiculously stupid runs and mistakes on defense. I've been playing it on legendary, I already adjusted all the sliders and am using a set up someone recommended.     Each year we are facing with the same issue, EA sports releases a new version of FIFA which is partially or completely broken. The game comes out to release with such bugs that it is impossible to play. People pay for the game 50-100$, and receive a product that does not work. People tolerated it for years, but sooner or later it has to end.

    This year a new version of the game has surpassed all it's predesestors. And a huge part of the community received a completely broken mode Pro Clubs. Critical bugs that not allow to play friendly games between teams and stopped all the international tournaments held in every country of the world. Hundreds of thousands of players spend 2-3 hours of their time to play only one game each evening struggling with the broken mechanics.And these efforts do not always guarantee success. Almost 2 months as EA sports knows about this issue. It released 4 patches to the game, and not one of them did solve this problem. Players tested all possible reason and the occurrence of this error, reported all this information to support, but they do nothing.

    They spend their resources to repair the small problems of the game modes which bring them money for the donation. But it seems they forget that we already paid for the game, and had to get a quality product. We will do our best to make our voice heard and make executives who are responsible for what is happening respect their customers and players. The only viable method of play is to collect fast, small, skill move players. The Kane, Ibra and Costa style players are made to feel like Sunday League players. A game that is supposed to be tactical is pointless when there is only one way to play.

    These balance issues are compounded by incredibly aggressive player fatigue, poor AI positioning for defenders, goalkeepers who fumble way too often, overpowered finesse shots and a player selection system that picks the wrong player when defending about 25% of the time. Selection is made even worse through a series of scenarios where swapping player is literally locked out to you to ensure the opponent will not be punished, such as high headed clearances.

    Overall it’s a big enough drop in quality to not recommend the game.    … Expand

    While playing moves are more realistic, and 4k graphics are enjoyable, EA servers are often down, forcing you to re-login with lots of latency.

    Sadly, the game is also geared around in-game purchases to advance more quickly, and as a casual gamer, you won't be able to buy any high key players without either making huge in game purchases, or playing for literally years.

    By rebuilding the animation system the developers managed to significantly improve footballers’ responsiveness, which results in more fluent gameplay and lets you perform tighter maneuvers. That makes attacking a real joy, but in my opinion turned defense into frustrating chore that requires too much precision. [12/2017, p.42]
