A charming and well-constructed take on the twin stick shooter, Flame Over endears itself greatly with easy to play, yet difficult to master mechanics which neatly avoid the frustration usually associated with roguelike titles.

Take a bit of time to learn its systems, and this will grow on you like an out-of-control inferno. Just remember to have a bit of patience, or you will get burned.

Yes, these roguelikesThere is a fine line between challenging and frustrating and Flame Over is unfortunately more often than not the latter. Yes, these roguelikes are supposed to be difficult but the way fires spread again so quickly after you put them out, as well as the almost impossible to avoid fireballs which come flying your way, can often make you feel as if sheer luck is more important than any modicum of skill (It took me about 20 attempts just to beat the so called ‘tutorial’ level!). This level of difficulty and constant repeating of levels would be forgivable if the gameplay itself was particularly enjoyable but, whilst it’s not without some merits, it’s all rather dull and repetitive. To be honest I wouldn’t even bother giving this a go if, like me, you got it free with PS+. Expand

The 10 minutes I could stand playing this mess were un-enjoyable, boring and frustrating. A simple concept ruined with terrible controls, laughable graphics and hilariously hard difficulty.
I've beat Demon souls and Bloodborne, yet I cant even put the fire out in the first room? You die without knowing why, the programming is so screwed that fires don't actually go out and it's impossible to clear a room because once you put a fire out and move to the next, flames jump back to the one you just put out, meaning you cant actually progress.

A broken mess that shouldn't have been allowed on playstation.
