I am thrilled to see the Mega Man Battle Network series return with more content than ever, and the Collection makes an incredibly easy recommendation for something to play this Spring: If you’re looking to get your hands on a collection of classic titles remastered in all the right ways, look no further than the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection.
As far as collections go, Capcom absolutely nails it with the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection. The slight graphical upgrade is nice as well as the large collection of backgrounds you can choose from. A talking MegaMan NetNavi at the title screen is also a super nice touch.
It's rigth that the games are not perfect, and is a little expensive ($60 Usd) but the games are very funny, takes a really long time to complete one of them (More completing the 2 versions from Battle Network 3 - 6) and it includes all the content of the Japanese versions. If you want to wait for a discount, it's ok, but if you want to enjoy them, buy it, you're not going to regret it, is a beautiful collection.
The best mega man collection that capcom has ever released.
My ranking in terms of how great the package is when it comes to capcom's mega man collections.
In order: 1. Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection - 10/10
2. Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection - 8/10
3. Mega Man X Legacy Collection - 7/10
4. Mega Man Legacy Collection - 7/10
This compilation of all Mega Man Battle Network games has many improvements and new features that have made us appreciate these games again. A large gallery full of interesting material and the incorporation of online give a new life to games that are far from perfect, but were very relevant in the era of the Game Boy Advance.
In a lot of ways the early Game Boy Advance years were all over the place. The rules hadn’t been established yet, and the potential was higher than ever. Anime had penetrated the mainstream, Call of Duty didn’t exist and nobody really hated Sonic the Hedgehog yet. Experiments and sequel vomiting could happen at the same time, and games were still small enough to support niche audiences of all sizes. Battle Network, especially in retrospect, feels like a poster child of that time. It’s probably a little overwhelming to dive in now, and lord knows how corny the Y2K tech jargon reads, but you can’t find a better singular piece of media that sums it all up so neatly.
Quite a barebones collection of ten Game Boy Advance titles that are a bit too much similar one another. The good underlying gameplay is worth the admission price if you like this kind of videogame.
This might come off as rather strict, but that’s because I do think these games are classics that deserve the best. I don’t want to be overdramatic though, because this Legacy Collection is still the best we’ve ever gotten. I think more could have been done, but I don’t want to downplay the work that went into bringing Mega Man Battle Network back like this. While I’m unsure if modern audiences would click with these, I think kids might still get a lot out of them even today. They’re all fantastic freshman RPG experiences that don’t explicitly treat their audience in a condescending manner. This is a great collection, but it could have been a legendary one.
There are a ton of games in the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, but because the six titles have so little to differentiate them from each other, it’s hard to see anyone but the most hardcore of fans wanting to run through the entire series. I enjoyed revisiting these games from my youth but came away ready to leave them in the past. For those who just want to dip their toes in, Capcom has provided the option to purchase only the first or second half of the series separately instead of buying the entire larger collection. While it’s not quite as good of a deal on a per-game basis, for those who just want a quick nostalgia hit, that may be the way to go.
Got it for pc and switch. A collection of unfathomably based games. I tell people that it's basically Yu-Gi-Oh chess. You move a piece along a board and try to kill the other piece while employing yugioh esc cards that give you weapons, heals and can even summon other pieces to help you.
Good-
Six good to very good games; the emulation is great, a whole lot of classics (new and original) are included, and concessions to modern players (such as a smooth filter, online play, and an easy mode) are all included.
Bad-
None of these games ever approach the highs of other Mega Man sub-series (or other RPGs); the six games are all VERY similar.
Thoughts-
But they are good – and this collection is the best way to play them, and a loving and reverential homage to them, adding a whole bunch of cool concessions and goodies without diluting the spirit of the original games. If you like Mega Man, get this collection. If you like RPGs, get this collection and play at least one of these games (preferably 3). You’re not going to fall in love, but you’re going to have a good time – and if you end up playing all the games over time, you’ll have a lot of it for a very low price of entry as well.
This is great value and is best on Switch because of TV and Handheld capability. You get all Network games in 1, instead of having to hunt it down on PC.
If you were a huge fan of the MMBN series, then this feels like a 10. But I still believe the other megaman series like X/ZX and Legends to be superior. Chips are used just like any other TCG game that mixes in platforming or action (kingdom hearts chain of memories), yet other franchises do it better.
60$ for 6 gba roms. Enough Said. The "NEW" stuff aren't even interesting. A Mega Man vtuber skin that repeats the same lines over and over again. A PvP system that makes it near impossible to find a player, and when you find one you're probably gonna get curve stomped since they probably 100% the game! Why couldn't you just pick a set that is balanced instead of using the in game set. It's only fun once you have beaten the game and have a viable set.
Why is there no MMBN 4.5 or Double Team, isn't this the "ultimate collection". What's with the ugly ass font they used?
At least the games are still good
Tldr. Not worth 60$, wait for a sale or price drop. PvP is only good if you have a viable deck.
I LOVE Mega Man Battle Network but for 60$, this ain’t it man….
I can excuse the previous Mega Man collections since they are really cheap, even though they have some horrible emulation problems.
This collection is really dumb as it’s split into two, I thought after the Zero/ZX collection they stopped doing that but no.
The Mega Man Vtuber thing is cute at first, but when he starts saying the same boring lines over and over, it really gets annoying. Thank god you can shut him up.
The main selling point: PvP system kinda underwhelming, you have to use your own deck from in game which means that you’ll most likely get destroyed unless you grind for better chips.
It’s also super hard to find another player, and when you do there’s a huge chance for it to be laggy.
The games emulation is fine (excluding some weird localization bugs in BN6), but the lack of opinions really breaks it for me.
- No speed up which makes random encounters still annoying.
- Ugly font which you can’t remove.
- No BN5 Double Team
- They didn’t fix BN4 localization.
- No wide screen filter (although i never use it), which has been in every Legacy Collection.
- Wish they added missing games like Network Transmission
You might say I’m asking for too much but I paid 60$ for this, i was at least expecting a better version of over 20 year old games i can easily emulate.
It’s very saddening to see a great series Battle Network get reduced to this.
I hope CAPCOM makes more Mega Man games instead of these poor collections
SummaryAll 10 mainline games in the Mega Man Battle Network series return! The year is 200X. Rapid growth of internet technology has given rise to Network Society. People carry with them PETs, mobile devices equipped with sentient programs called NetNavis, which they use in order to enjoy the many benefits the network provides. But even though ...
