Players who want to build their own legacy can dive into Be-A-Pro, which allows them to start their career in the minors and takes them through a new progression system where how they play on the ice shapes who they become in the NHL. And if players are more akin to armchair GMs, not only can they navigate the machinations of draft day and manage their AHL affiliate team, they can now also manage the morale of individual players on their team. With a gentle learning curve, tight mechanics and immensely gratifying gameplay, NHL 16 stands as EA Sports’ most accomplished release of the year.

This is as complete an NHL experience as I think you can possibly get in a video game. With so many ways to play, it is almost like you are getting 4, 5, or more games for the price of one.

NHL 16 is a triumphant return to form. After the debacle that was the razor-thin NHL 15, EA has restored all of the beloved modes to the game and they’re better than ever. More still, the game itself is simply better than ever before with slick mechanics, fantastic visuals and incredible detail to individual arenas.

The On-Ice Trainer is an awesome alternative to tutorials, and it makes me hope that other companies, not just those making sports games, will find a way to implement similar tools. NHL 16 is a huge improvement over NHL 15 in every way, and it makes me optimistic for the future of the franchise.

A fun and elaborate hockey game that manages to be both accessible to newcomers and challenging to veterans. Online you'll definitely encounter a couple of hick-ups, but none of them are bad enough to ruin the experience.

When played by yourself or with a friend on the couch, NHL 16 is a fast, sharp-looking, and fun hockey sim that (unlike last year’s game) includes enough modes to keep veterans happy while doing an admirable job of welcoming newcomers as well. It still suffers technical problems with online play.

If you’re a hockey fan, there’s no real reason you shouldn’t buy this game; it’s leaps and bounds better than the version we received a year ago and worth sharpening your blades for.

This year though, not only are all the modes included again, but the menu is snappier, the graphics are nicer, and the audio sounds better.

SUCH a great step up. Now let's just hope online is stable.

But essentially it is the same NHL 15, as he should have been at least a year ago. But thanks to this, I thought to wait for anything good in this year is not worth from EAsports. Hockey fans can buy safely, in this version you can play, compared to the same terrible NHL 15. Expand

This game is killed by absolutely disaster goalies, poke checking (it really needs to be nerfed) and slow puck movement. It tries to be realistic but instead its players playing hockey in a fudge pool, scoring with poke checks and goalies made of cheddar. As long as the difficulty is the hardest, games ending up 9-6, I am keeping this beauty in reserve. Been playing NHL since -95/96. Expand

You either play as rookie and win games 21 to 2 or level up to pro (which is one step up from rookie) and get beaten 8-1. You never have a feeling of fairness in the game, your teammates are incompetent morons, the CPU cheats like mad (CPU poke checks you, it keeps the puck, you pokecheck CPU, puck flies away to get taken by another CPU player).

Broke my game CD in half in frustration of spending 5 hours getting a gameplay setting that works and feels fun, there is none. It just sucks.

Note to EA: Most gamers don't want to memorize 234 different button combination just to pass a puck. Game controls are getting ridiculous.

NHl 16 makes me feel like i'm playing some legacy version for ps3. Quick Negatives: a) No freedom of shot
    b) No freedom of pass
    c) bad quick auto pass aim
    d) Bad graphics (against nhl 15)
    e) NHL 16 authentic player faces (NHL 16's faces are nothing against NHL 15)
    f) Commentary team almost no dramatic speak.
    g) Only one new cutscene and one goalie celebration which appeared in nhl 16 trailer is not in game.
    h) Skating is better in nhl 15, i don't understand how can be someone mad for that players are falling more while someone bodycheck them. (In nhl 16 it's almost impossible to bodycheck someone without using analog while running right in to players. Not like in nhl 15).

Positives: a) They Brought back old modes. But thats all i can say positive about this game while i compare it with nhl 15.

    *Description of some negatives*:
1.) Graphics: This game looks worse, it has worse graphics than nhl 15. They made authentic faces only for the first three scoring stars in each team *while in nhl 15 almost whole team got the authentic faces and even players those don't score so often (even GOALIES)*. You won't probably believe it but in nhl 16 all goalies look the same. Even the goalie stars. Maybe some of them have a moustache or not but they look all the same. Reason is: because they have whole match a helmet overhead so ea thinks you don't see them. But that's not true, you allways see goalie's head through the mask. So this is lazy **** work.
2.) Comentary team: While in real life matches the comentaries are talking loud on just single slapshot. In nhl 16 they just talk like nothing happend (off course they say "Glove save" or smthing but it's nothing dramatic). But that's also an nhl 15 problem. So non-dramtical comentary team. The only dramatical speak is when goalie makes save with square or circle, but that's not often. They should scream for every one-timer shot so they are realistic as possible.
3.) Passes: It's totally automatical **** While in NHL 14 and 15 it was all about skill, in nhl 16 you aim with your analog to left and it still sends the pass to left-up like total automatic aiming **** (if there is a player, but on that left side there was also a player so game thinks for you that you want to get to offense so it sends pass to upper side not left....). Your own team players can block your own pass to a player further in the zone like if they couldn't get the puck, no they won't pick up the puck while the game aimed different player. They are like:Ohoho i just poke check and interrupt the pass because game aimed different player but the puck is coming to me so i won't pick it up, i'll send it away... OOOH REALLY GREAT LOGIC EA!!! So when you pass only one player can catch it and that one who was aimed by the game itself....
4.) Goalies: In NHl 15 they were totally free, i felt allways like they move totally free like they think for themselves and then they make saves. In NHL 16 there are for every kind of shot one or two already made save positions and i could make four shots from the same place and the goalie would make all the same leg move save. NHL 15 goalies are more realistic. They actually listened to people that goalies don't catch anything. So they made goalies those catch everything instead of improving defense AI. The only thing nhl 15 ned was better defense AI. Goalies were perfect. And another thing why it may be like that, because people wanted to be able to play as goalie ( what i think is that playing as goalie is worst idea ever because AI will be allways faster than a player so as a goalie you almost allways fail in the net). So they ned to totally change goalies....
5.) Shooting: I feel like there is again just few spots where game will allways send your shot while you do whatever is possible with your left analog. It allways shots the same. NHL 15 had milions of spots. How you aimed, the player shooted.
6.) I believe that everyone was looking for new cutscenes (finally) And the only new is after winning a game while goalie celebrate with two more players than before. I was personally looking forward to that goalie celebration that is at the end of NHL 16 trailer and i'm playing nhl 16 since september and never seen it in a game not even on a youtube.

As an avid hockey fan and a big time gamer, hockey video games are pretty much my favorite thing. I play all games, but I love hockey so I always have an urge to play a hockey game.

I've been playing hockey games since I had a SEGA. I was a top 500 ranked player on EASHL, for the 09,10,12, 13,and 14 versions of the NHL series and I also delve in HUT as well.

This years version of the game is being propped up in praise due to the disaster of NHL 15. Fair, but without any real competition, EA sports does not have to try anymore. And, of course, people like me, who continue to **** about how bad the games are, continue to give EA my hard-earned money. The AI is still bad and really makes some truly puzzling decisions during online play. HUT is truly a money grabbing scheme by EA. I would love to see how much money they are making from people buying packs. it sucks to because I have played over 150 HUT games so far, so I've earned most of my coins the old fashioned ways and out of about 30 packs, I've gotten 2 players worth over 20 k.

    Pros:

    Graphics are good.
    Crowd is really impressive.
    Game modes are definitely improved

    Cons:

i have a digital download, the game crashes at least once a day.
HUT online play is bad and needs several patches
    EASHL AI is even worse.
