The remastered version of this delightful and heartwarming JRPG packs a colorful and heartfelt punch, one that's sure to charm even the most jaded of JRPG fans.

The cost of admission is about four times what you might pay for a copy on the PS3, but obviously your mileage may vary. For those that missed NNK the first time around or maybe sold their copy with their PS3 over the years, the remaster makes a strong case for itself simply because the game is still great and time has not tained the experience.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered proves that the time doesn’t affect to a quality title. Dynamic turn-based combats, strong plot, great anime design and exceptional BSO give form to one of the greatest JRPG ever. A must have game for every anime and/or RPG fan.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will always be one of the best JRPGs ever. It perfectly combines a heartfelt story of a young lad on a mission with supremely enjoyable gameplay all set in a breathtaking world.

The Remaster version and the port ran very solid while playing, which is why I recommend anyone who does not know Ni no Kuni, to watch the whole thing. You will not regret it.

The PS4 Remastered Edition moves super smooth throughout its gameplay segments. The visuals are clear and run at a high framerate all the time. Overall, I feel the game comes out as being equal on both versions since the Switch version has the added bonus of being portable. You really can't go wrong with either version. Just ask yourself, will you be playing it on a HDTV or on the go? Either way, buy it and experience it for yourself because you will be pleased either way.

This beautiful Remastered version brings to actual consoles one of the most intriguing and magical JRPGs made by Level-5. Be sure not to miss it... again.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a prime example of “Old but Gold”! If you are a fan of JRPGs, you’ll spend hours enjoying it. Period.
  9. Sep 23, 2019
Gorgeous visuals, charming characters, and engaging story abound in this remaster. While changes are purely graphical in nature, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch certainly deserves a play for newcomers and veterans alike.

6 years after its original release, Ni No Kuni Remastered is still a beautiful J-RPG with great music and a moving story, that looks incredible in 4K resolution.
  11. Sep 16, 2019
This remastered version preserves all the magic of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and delivers it to all PC and PS4 owners. A highly recommended experience.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered is a technically well made conversion, with which the original game returns to shine.
  13. Sep 16, 2019
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered makes sufficient improvements to the visuals, bringing the same incredible JRPG to PC and PS4 without leaving any detail behind.

One of the most gorgeous and timeless JRPGs of the last decade has now been resurrected on PS4, and if you missed it the first time around you really have no excuse now. This is how you pay tribute to a classic.
  15. Sep 25, 2019
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is not only one of the most beautiful JRPGs from this decade, but it's a one of a time experience. With this Remastered version, LEVEL 5 confirms the game as a unique experience for gamers, despite featuring only a few presentation improvements.
  16. Sep 24, 2019
Studio Ghibli and Level- 5 join forces again to deliver a remaster of a game that detaches magic and charisma at its artistic level and amply meets the requirements of the classic JRPG genre, giving rise an experience that, despite some small imperfections that prevent it from standing as a perfect videogame, it becomes a journey hard to forget.

Ni no Kuni's whimsical world and aesthetic will pull you in with memories of your childhood anime and cartoons.
  18. Oct 23, 2019
This beautiful adventure hasn’t lost a beat. The roleplaying experience might by “only” solid, but is carried by its captivating as well as charming story and the gorgeous presentation.
  19. Oct 15, 2019
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a modern classic in all the right ways. A great story, beautiful music, great combat and wonderful characters make this a RPG everyone needs to play.

I have a difficult time not recommending Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered as a whole.
  21. Sep 23, 2019
If you never got the chance to play this game in its initial release this is the best way to experience it. With improved frame rate and visuals, this wonderful fairy tale by Studio Ghibli and Level-5 is one of the most beautiful JRPG experiences you'll find in the modern era of gaming.

Ni no Kuni hasn’t aged a bit. While PC and PS4 versions make the most of it visually, the Switch version looks fantastic. No matter what version you go for, Ni no Kuni is great.
  23. Sep 17, 2019
We would have liked more new content and a more affordable price tag, but this Remastered version of Ni No Kuni makes a timeless classic available in 4K and for a new generation of gamers.
  24. Sep 16, 2019
A solid, enthralling and artistically superb JRPG, as well as a clear example of how much the Japanese role-playing game still has much to say.
  25. Sep 20, 2019
One of the best Japanese role-players of the generation and a gloriously beautiful game by any standard, both visually and emotionally.
  26. Sep 19, 2019
While Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch remains intact, and thus only gains mobility on Nintendo Switch, the PS4 and PC versions reveal subtle visual details from this truly magical piece of art. A great, classic JRPG, in every sense of the words, hereby presented through its ultimate rendition.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered doesn't reinvent the original, but that wasn't really needed anyway. What you get here is a visually enhanced port of what was already an amazing JRPG full of charm, wit, and character.
  28. Sep 16, 2019
Just as fantastic as it was upon its initial release. From its Ghibli-illustrated cutscenes, to its brilliant world and characters you can’t help but fall in love with, it remains one of the finest JRPGs of recent years.

It’s fair to say that Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch didn’t really need a remaster at all, but we won’t look a gift horse in the mouth, and choice is a good thing. It’s undoubtedly nice to have this standout last-generation title running so smoothly on PS4, and it’s just so tidy. After all, it’s also fair to say that this was and is a truly special game. Far more narratively focused than its sequel, this is a tentpole title for lovers of traditional Japanese role-playing games.

I had fun with Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered, but I found myself knocking it down to easy so I could just hit things without thinking too hard, and going through the more compelling sights and sounds without having to dive into a bunch of clumsy systems I didn’t enjoy engaging with.

I’m not saying this is a no effort port, but that the effort put in and the price they are asking for a game that is six years old seem disconnected. Right now there are plenty of great RPGs available that are new and with a price tag so high it’s hard to suggest the old game rather than the new one. I can only recommend this to people who have never played it or the hardest of hardcore Ni No Kuni fans because otherwise just wait for a sale to play this one again.

Half a decade later, Ni no Kuni is still a must-play adventure for fans of JRPGs and Studio Ghibli films. That we get to play it once more without having to plug the PlayStation 3 in again is a treat in its own right, but seeing it remastered in 4K is simply magical.

(DISCLAIMER: I did not finish the game. I got roughly ten hours in before I decided to call it quits.)

An endearing premise and Ghibli visuals do a lot to carry this JRPG, but not enough to save it from clunky combat mechanics that ultimately drag this game into the murky waters of mediocrity.

Like many modern JRPGs, NNK has walked away from the clean precision of turn based combat, opting instead for clumsy action-rpg system where your party and a handful of monsters run around a little combat area in real time.

Despite this, commands such as "attack" and "defend" still require you to flip through a menu, which can become an issue when enemy attacks are time sensitive, leading to a lot of frustration when big attacks you saw coming hit you anyway as you fumble with the controls.

You can only control one party member at any given time, so there isn't much in the way of teamwork. Your other party members can have certain behaviors set if you don't want them burning through mana, but you can only change behaviors if you're in control of a human character.

You see, you aren't just having to shuffle through a single party of characters, but each character has a sub-party in the form of monster familiars who all share health and mana with their user.

The designs of the familiars are mostly forgettable, which is an issue because the game emphasizes you use them in combat over the more endearing human characters.

I quit once the game introduced monster capturing and evolving (think pokemon), finally burying my already waning interest under a even more pet management mechanics.

It’s a mixture between Harry Potter and Pokemon with its own charm. The story is compelling and emotional, The world is enchanting, the fights are super fun. I played on the PS3 and I’m playing again on the switch. I constantly want the game to last longer and longer. It’s not boring even for one second. The bad reviews are very vague, from people that want to play Final Fantasy 100 times and get upset when other RPGs aren’t like FF. Ignore the bad reviews and get this game! You will thank me.
