The best part about RE5 on PS4 is being able to remote play on my Vita. Just like RE4 the controls translate very well to the Vita. It's amazing to see such a good looking game actually look even better than it did on the PS3. It is also an awesome value that it includes all DLC.

Resident Evil 5 is a captivating, breathtaking, and brilliant game that managed to combine boulder-punching action with the whole Resident Evil feel. Despite what people say about this game not fitting in as a Resident Evil game, I recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the Resident Evil series.

The game was very long (in a positive way) which i did't expected. Story was interesting and pretty hard. With both DLC's in the PS4 version, this game is for sure worth the money.

Still the old RE5 we all know about.
The full HD and 60fps gameplay is a huge step over the 720p30 on PS3. This game also includes all DLC and it's awesome.

If you play with another human than the fun factor is very high. However, if you are stuck with an A.I. companion then prepare to suffer. This title is a straight action game and has no real horror elements. Resident Evil seems to have lost their way with this title.

It was one of the few games where you had to really work together or you would die. It also had a nice mix of exploration, puzzles, looting, inventory management, and intense third person shooting/melee gameplay. Completing each level and boss felt like a satisfying accomplishment. It's also one of the few linear co- op narrative campaigns in the ps4 library. The free added dlc were nice additions to the game along with the option to play mercenaries and versus. Lots of co op gaming value. The graphics/atmosphere also looked nice on the ps4. Expand

The movement system stayed true to the amazing STAND+aim system which was introduced with Resident Evil 4.
This system is what makes Resident Evil 4 and 5 special. The Shooting does not become a big unrealistic mess but ends up beeing what a survival horror shooter should be. The feeling of you trying to defend a big horde while having to fall back, trying to hit the headshots to kick staggering enemies just never was the same since resi 5.
The story is also a real deal in the game, the pace is really well done and great cinematics are used regulary.
And the most important aspect the overall atmosphere. The African setting is the best thing that happend to the Resident Evil series (excluding Resident Evil 4 setting which was even better). It is a mysterious place full of different areas to explore.

I could tell you many more aspects why this game is my fav game till today but I will just end it here.

But one last word: Play this game with a friend its meant to be played together dont be one of these people playing it alone and complaining about anything because they never had the chance to enjoy the real experience.

If you want something like Resident Evil 5 (even better) for 1 player. -> Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 5 is a great co-op action game, but a poor Resident Evil game. It was the first Resident Evil title that I had ever played and I absolutely loved it. But as I went on to play the older titles, I realized that Resident Evil 5 is not as good as the rest of the series. I don’t mind that it’s co-op or that it’s more of an action game, but the story is over-the-top. What made the stories of the previous games great was that they were simple and stuck to a few locations. With this game, you’re fighting enemies in the most ridiculous of locations and it bothers me a lot. Resident Evil has never been realistic, but I’d argue that Resident Evil is at it’s best when somewhat grounded in realism. Just enough to take it seriously. If you’re looking for a solid gameplay with a friend, then this is a great title. If you’re just someone who wants a solid action game, this is probably an 8/10. But when you look at it as a Resident Evil game, I feel that it has to be lowered for going in a direction that most fans did not approve of. The PS4 version does include all of the DLC and runs at 60 frames per second if you do care about that like I do. You get two DLC missions that should add over an hour of story and extra characters for the Mercenaries. One of the DLC missions is called “Lost in Nightmares”. It goes for that horror feel and I’d argue that the rest of the game should’ve played like it. As a package, I can definitely recommend this version. Expand

Is Resident Evil 5 a good game in 2021? Depends on what you were expecting. Horror? Maybe a little, but it's mostly an action game with great co-op and an arcade-y feel to it.

The story is OK, the graphics are OK and the Gameplay is fun. I can't tell you how many times I have beaten this game from the beginning and unlocked everything. Even on professional mode the game is a fun time

RE5 is a really good game, and with the better resolution and frame rate its even better than before. The story is average but the gameplay is a ton of fun especially when playing with a friend. But playing this game solo can become boring after a while. Overall RE5 is a really good game when played with a friend but when played solo its alright.

The first third is straight up a more corridor centric RE4 that is decent at best. The middle is more open and really is the highlight of the game for me. The final third is a roller coaster of quality with some brilliant section but it also tries to jump in on the trend set by gears of war 3 years prior and it is a miserable attempt due to the stiffness of the controls which really becomes apparent in these sections. The story of the game is far more connected to the RE universe than 4 and is compelling but none of the characters are standouts like Leon was in RE4. The game has a good variety of environments so the visuals at the very least don't go stale. Pretty much every enemy is similar to RE4's and they function well minus in the cover shooting sections. The boss fights are very hit or miss. 3 of them are great but the rest are absolutely awful. This is an action game not a survival horror one. There's only one section in the game that felt remotely like a survival horror and it was my favorite section in the game. It's not that I hate action I actually prefer action games to survival horror however while this control scheme is perfect for RE4 it is not a fit for a gears of war like game that this game wants to be. It's the indecision in whether to be one or the other but in the end it is neither and the lack of a concrete vision is seen in it's quality. What makes or breaks this game is whether u play in coop or not. If you do it's a good solid game if u don't it is decent at best as the ai isn't the best. The ai in particular is awful at taking cover in those shooting sections leading to much unwanted frustration. Mercenaries returns and is better than in RE4 in my opinion and it comes with the two dlc packs that are two of the best levels in the game. If your playing with a friend there are better but it's a good time but if your playing alone be ready for some potential frustration, worth playing for diehard RE fans but that's about it

Longer version: After the really good but a bit different Resident Evil 4 I was hyped for the next instalment in the franchise. Because of the mixed fan reviews I was a bit sceptical and waited until the price significantly dropped. I still bought it as I was a fan of the franchise and played all main games and a few spin off games. The game itself is a disappointment as I and a lot of others see it as shooter and not survival horror game. I would even say it is no Resident Evil game or better said does not feel like it. I am not entirely sure if it is as bad as I say because of my expectations and deviations from the established formula or if it is just a bad game (For some this is the same). The story is set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 4 and you play as Resident Evil 1 veteran Chris Redfield who is now an agent of BSAA (Bioterorism Security Assessment Alliance). He and his partner Sheva Alomar are sent to Africa as there is a planned deal with a bio-organic weapon. When they arrive their worst assumptions are surpassed. What follows is a struggle or shoot out for survival. The story is well done in Resident Evil B-movie style. It is enjoyable as always by its franchise standards. Gameplay wise it is a co-op shooter. You control Chris and the AI plays Sheva or you have a friend as second player via split screen (not used it so I cant judge this). New elements are the ability to upgrade weapons anytime (Tip: It refills your ammunition for free), enemies with weapons, item size does not matter anymore (bigger inventory by the way but not limitless), fast weapon changing with the d-pad, an auto save feature and a few other things. The controls work good enough for me. Maybe the aiming could be a bit faster. Remark: For others this was a mayor complain. You can and sometimes must help your partner. Healing sprays by the way work for both players it used when close enough together if I remember correctly. There are also fewer riddles or puzzles than in the previous games. Sadly the quick time events returned from Resident Evil 4. In total I think they slayed to much holy cows of the franchise. It is not bad but not what I expected / wanted or paid for. I wanted more survival horror. I think I must mention the controversy about this game. It was framed as racist. Because it is in Africa the infected enemies are African and the protagonist was a white male. For the first they were of cause African as it is set in Africa. If it were in China the majority would be Chinese. This is just the normal standard demographics. For the protagonist it is natural to use a veteran of previous games as an established character is far more immersive than a new character. I know it sits not well even for me but I think it is not intended to support racism. Maybe they should avoid this in general (They did in future games). Overall I think this is a good shooter but terrible survival horror game. It was not what I expected and it could sadly not win me over. I do not recommend it for Resident Evil fans. Fair warning Resident Evil 6 is also mostly not a survival horror game. Just watch on YouTube the funny song for Resident Evil 6 from miracleofsound (Hammer the button and wiggle the stick;-). Expand

Resident Evil in a nutshell is all about heroic action heroes battling all manner of freaky freak created by a evil corporation. Visuals are still pretty nice even for a game as old as this. Not exactly the direction I wanted the initially creepy Resident Evil IP to go in, but I thought the same about RE4. The controls are old age clunky, but nowhere near as bad as RE4 on a controller.Resident Evil in a nutshell is all about heroic action heroes battling all manner of freaky freak created by a evil corporation. This is a game that works better with friends. The co-op isn't to bad, but isn't great either. It hasn't aged or dated as bad as RE4. Same as RE4 only being able to fire when stationary was a massive tactical limitation and some immersion breaking game world logic. A nice roster of upgradable weapons was the personal carrot on the stick for many a new game+ replay.

From survival horror, to nearly pure action. I still enjoyed this game.
Adding co-op was actually an amazing touch. The game is good. But playing with a friend is what made this game great! I've never replayed a game as many times as I have this one.

The combat was a lot of fun in this game. But it did lack a lot of the horror games. No more Nemesis hunting you down. However, the combat made up for that. (And bringing back the chainsaw guy was a good addition. He still adds some scare factor.)
The game got some hate for the switch to action. But I still found it a lot of fun fighting off zombies with a friend.

Resident Evil 5 is a good game, it just lacks an identity and atmosphere to be truly memorable, despite many satisfying story moments.

The DLC "Lost in Nightmares" is amazing.

the best coop game you will ever play, at least as far as resident evil is concerned.

This is just RE 4 only more action oriented with less horror. Started a period of decline until RE 7 got the series back on track.

The worst game of all parts of Resident evil. This is a shooter, not a horror survivor.

The gameplay it's too rigid and repetitive.
The history and Narrative were okay.
I played on ps3, it had an amazing graphics.
Compared to another games from resident evil, definitely this game it's not as good as the others.
    But i enjoyed this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game (unfortunately) is just the beginning of the end of good RE games like I literally felt like playing a gears of war game the AI is annoying for players who play alone the gameplay is so similar to RE 4's gameplay and the story lacks from the usual resident evil vibe and the worst thing was Wesker's death like couldn't they just give him a more epic death at least but I liked lost in nightmares though even if the last boss fight wasn't so satisfying. Having played this game for countless hours when I was a young teen with my cousin, I was intrigued on playing through over 10 years later when it was available on ps4. I don't want to be quoted on this but I think they just upped the game to 1080p and 60fps, as of most recently remastered games. Despite this I did not get even half the enjoyabilty as

It was a fun game , the horror aspect of the game is close to none but still very gory and the story is average but contains some OG characters so that always gave this game brownie points

Um dos meus favoritos na saga Resident Evil, apesar da IA ser meio frustrante em algumas partes, é um jogo bem divertido, a DLC Lost in Nightmares foi a cereja do bolo.

Resident Evil 5 was pretty good. Sure some things about RE5 are kinda, odd. But overall I'd tell any RE fan to play 5, just not as their first.

Its so meh, this is where I started to lose hope for resi. While I don't think this is an awful game, it still has many flaws such as just being really forgettable, bad dialogue, badly aged graphics that tried to be realistic at the time, the enemy ai is really dumb and easy to fool, lastly just a really bad coop system for weapon sharing. On to the positives this game has a really coolIts so meh, this is where I started to lose hope for resi. On to the positives this game has a really cool setting and is one of the coolest looking locations which genuinely has a really unsettling start to it, the coop isnt too bad! just I hate the weapon system, combat is quite fun and I love Chris punching boulders.
Its a meh game with too many flaws that let it ruin the experience.

This game is pretty fun especially with second player. There are some pretty fun sequences and shooting galleries'. The combat is unique in the same way as RE4 and has some pretty satisfying animations to compliment your weapon fire. Unfortunately this game is longer than it needs to be and there are some notably poorly designed sections.

The only thing still attractive about RE5 is Sheva Alomar. Everything else – the design, the mechanics, the visuals (it’s a port, not a remaster) – aged to various degrees, but always noticeably. [09/2016, p.63]

Africa and its people are, essentially, exotic props in this game, with no humanity or purpose.

Resident Evil 5 had its time to shine in 2009, but even rose tinted glasses can’t save this game in 2016.
