Ultimately, Solbrain Knight of Darkness is not a game that is so bad it’s good. Instead it’s just categorically, unconditionally bad, and there is no fun to be eked from this mess of a game. This assault on the senses is a disgrace to the PSN and I’m absolutely bamboozled as to why Sony greenlit this tripe. Even those with a morbid curiosity should avoid this game and not waste their time and money. Simply put, this is a depressing catastrophe of a game.
LIXO!
Steam greenlight comes to PS4!
For real though, the game is abysmal, it barely runs and has crashed multiple times. The few time it did run it played like absolute hell. It wasn't even fun in an ironic way. Don't sate your curiosity, please don't give these "developers" your money. Spend it on a weeks worth of coffee, or food, or whatever.
It's not worth it, man...
I’ll lay it bare from the beginning: this is, hands-down, the worst console release in at least a decade, probably since Cosmic Race on PS1. This is also worse than Cosmic Race. Quite possibly the worst console game of all time.
I’ve played a lot of bad games. Sometimes they’re endearing in spite of their sheer ineptitude. Solbrain: Knight of Darkness is not one of those games. It has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Zero. It’s infested with stolen assets from games like TERA and Skyrim. The game’s app icon was stolen from a DeviantArt profile. Even the music is stolen, as evidenced by the multiple copyright notifications I quickly received after streaming this abomination on Youtube for just under an hour.
In each stage, you fight (I use the term loosely because collision detection for your weapon is largely non-existent) an undetermined number of enemies in order to advance to the next wave of enemies. These enemies move directly toward you, unless they happen to run into a rock, in which case they’ll stop because they game essentially has next to zero pathing. When they finally meet you, you will mash the attack button and nothing will happen. Or it will. No one knows for sure because only about half of your button presses will result in an actual attack. You’ll be lucky if that attack actually connects with the enemy (COLLISION DETECTION, ANYONE?) and you manage to defeat said enemy. Each enemy at least through four separate stages, takes two and exactly two hits to defeat, regardless of what model the star “developers” (read: “thieves”) chose for you to fight at that particular time. Variety in attacks, you ask? Combo system? These do not exist in the grand adventure that Solbrain will provide for you.
Did I mention the collision detection? If you have a fetish for walking through enormous rock formations, this is the game for you. Unless you like pretending to be Jesus. In that case, this game is also for you because an entire stage allows to walk on top of an enormous empty lake with absolutely zero landmarks. Have fun trying to find that last enemy you need to finish the stage!
As if all of this weren’t enough, the options button has no function in-game. You cannot pause. You cannot quit the game. You cannot restart. You cannot go back to the title screen.
Honestly, the sheer level of technical ineptitude and how brazenly the developers have stolen assets almost make this worth a purchase just to see exactly how bad it actually is. That said, now that you’ll easily be able to find Let’s Plays (if anyone else is foolish enough to actually waste their life on this like I have) you can save your money and enjoy the hilarity for free.
Zero out of Ten, and may God have mercy on me for playing this so you don’t have to.
Solbrain Knight of Darkness
Complete garbage.
Knight of Darkness is a hack and slash adventure game where you play as a lady knight and run across 8 different stages slashing at enemies…
notice I said at and not through... because this game has absolutely 0 hit detection... enemies feel like you’re slashing air... I’m not even joking…
You just run around an ugly textureless arena and slash enemy shaped air that can do damage as well…
Damage that by the way you can’t block or dodge… even though your character carries a shield…
Your health does refill on its own... so all you can do is hit and run… but you will take damage when you go to run.. There’s no way around it... same with attacking, you’re gonna take damage when you attack… so get a hit in and leave…wait for your health bar to fill up and come back.. Otherwise you’ll die, as enemies only need about 2 good hits on you...
you do get magic attacks, but these don’t regenerate... even at the end of waves.. you get 50 magic points or about 10 magic uses per stage… which the trailer promises to be about 1 hour long each..
I wouldn’t know and won’t know because it’s too painful to play through.
I’m not wasting any more of my time on it and I’m not wasting anymore of your time...
I’m disappointed in Sony for allowing this game to be for sale... especially at 14 usd...
Sony should be paying you to play this game.
I give Solbrain Knight of Darkness
