Added maps and online features make the multiplayer aspect of the game noticeably improved, but if you're more into single-player sneaking approach this with caution. [Dec 2007, p.159]
  2. 75
Given the game's low price and close temporal proximity to its forerunner, it's unsurprising that the visuals, sounds, and gameplay haven't changed at all since Portable Ops.
  3. 75
The budget price will keep gamers feeling satisfied for their twenty bucks and the addition of new maps and options should keep the action fresh. A lack of true single-player does tarnish it a bit but for the price you really shouldn’t expect much.

Online is almost dauntingly packed with options, and the roll move is still kind of broken, but it's hard to argue with the price. [Holiday 2007, p.88]
  5. While Portable Ops Plus doesn't offer an incredible amount of new things, it does do an exceptional job at recapturing the elements we loved in the first title.
  6. With new characters, maps and modes, along with the ability to play against players who still play the original, there is plenty to enjoy assuming you like the first game.
  7. A glorified map pack for the original Portable Ops. While the changes are going to appeal to the gamers who played Portable Ops online, they are the only possible audience for this title.
  8. While there's a lot to love, and it does succeed in giving fans exactly what they wanted, it doesn't feel as complete, compelling, or competent as the rest of the canon.
  9. Even with the reasonable price tag, you won’t help but feel that there could have been more to this title or at least it could have ironed out all the problems found in the original.

If you nailed the original game's single-player, there's not nearly enough in Plus to warrant a second purchase. [Apr 2008, p.109]
  11. 65
No story, unbalanced multiplayer and hampered recruiting mechanics all combine to make this a disappointing addition to one of the best games from last year.

Stick to the first game. [Mar 2008, p.80]

If you're a big fan of the original and love the multiplayer, you can read this as four and a half stars, but most people can live without Portable Ops Plus. [Holiday 2007, p.78]
  14. 60
If you can't get enough Portable Ops online, Ops + is just about worth it for the extra character limit. For everyone else, save those pennies and dimes for MGS4.
  15. With the story and some of the more interesting recruitment features from the original game removed and with an RPG experience system that ultimately breaks both the offline and online play, it's hard to recommend this over its forebear, even if it is cheap at half the price.
  16. 60
Overall, the game is good for a quick blast of stealth action on the go, but the game is not really deep enough for anything much more.

An expansion pack - nothing more, nothing less. If you don't own the original then you can still find some enjoyment, but to get anywhere online you'll have to suffer through the criminally plot-free Infinity Mission.
  18. Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK
    50
Disappointing. Should have been a download - as it is, it simply gets us down. [May 2008, p.107]
  19. We're positive you'll want to avoid MGS Portable Ops Plus: a lacklustre single-player mode, unfriendly interface, and minimal new content make it comprehensively inferior to its predecessor.

This is a great expansion pack! And whats awesome about it is that it doesn't require the original game (it is indeed standalone).
    I'd say

I'd say get it if you're either really serious about MGS: PO, or if you don't want to bother with the story of the original portable ops and want to jump straight into the action (though I wouldn't recommend doing that).
Get it since its on PSN and in stores! :D
It has great gameplay and graphics + great controls.

Is it well-built? Sure. The game has a slick presentation, just like the last game. The controls, while annoying as ever, are forgiving Is it well-built? Sure. The game has a slick presentation, just like the last game. The controls, while annoying as ever, are forgiving enough to be learned in time. The graphics are nice, but not spectacular. Basically any category this game attempts, it does well, but not much above average. And that's the game in a nutshell. Full Review »
