  • Summary: Death Road is built for replay value. Everything is randomized: locations, events, survivor appearances and personalities. There's a different story every time you play, set in a world that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Death Road to Canada is a quality game with a good deal of depth, both with the characters and the gameplay proper. The developers have made something that is both familiar and different, both weird and understandable. It takes a bit of time to grasp everything it has to offer, but it’s a game that is worth coming back to again and again. Gamers looking for a roguelike action RPG will especially enjoy this 8-bit survival tale.

When it originally launched on the Switch, it had some performance issues and a poorly thought out icon on the home screen but both of these have been fixed since then. Now, Death Road to Canada is in my goto Switch games that I play while travelling alongside The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and Enter the Gungeon. If you enjoy roguelikes, this one is super fun and pretty damn polished.

If you want to experience a deep and interesting horror adventure in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, get this little indie without great pretensions but more than entertaining.

Death Road to Canada is a title that chooses to change the current horror genre by bringing together RPG elements, lots of action and a well-crafted and very detailed retro art style. Certainly, it is one of my favorite indie games this year for switch owners.

Death Road to Canada is another in a long line of solid indie titles on the Switch. Great fun on the go, loads of replay value, and lots of fun as a 2-player co-op game give this one the legs that'll make the cheap $15 worth the spend.

Thanks to its sense of humour, character creation tool and multiplayer mode, this easily becomes one of the best indie games available on the Nintendo Switch and something that can provide many hours of fun to one, and especially two players.

Death Road to Canada attempts to offset the normally dark themes of the zombie genre with zany characters, a charming pixel art style, and poppy music, but the lack of depth to its combat and randomly generated content will quickly leave you feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. There is some fun to be had here for sure, which is definitely best experienced with friends, but that doesn't make up for its issues and overall lacklustre action.

I would highly recommend this game for people that enjoy Binding of Isaac or enter the gungeon but in this game you are not encouraged to kill every Zombie. You are reminded to avoid and run to conserve bullets when you can. I paid 8.99 and i bought it twice (ps4,Switch) I have no regrets. It's a fun addicting game. the greatest thing about this game is the custom characters, you can add everyone you know and they join the adventure. The only things I would change is the over all look is done in that 8 bit style which i am sick of. it would look better in 16 bit. 8 bit sucks... but maybe it's because I am older and remember playing 8 bit when it was all that I had. I also think there should be more weapons, more of everything. If you're gonna do random, make a ton of weapons and items. But anyways, what do i know. Looking forward to a sequel! Expand

This is a rogue-like trip simulator with lots of content. Every time you play there will be a different outcome. You can create your own characters that will appear on your trips, with the addition of multiple special characters as well. Lots of random events, all very fun. A great addition to my switch library, the only downside might be that it is kinda repetitive after some sessions and that there's no online multiplayer. Expand

A charming, funny, and addicting game. It's also very replayable! Get this if you need some time to kill.

I had avoided purchasing it on PC, but is an excellent game for the format of the switch. Difficulty is not a bad issue at all: rogue-lite esque upgrades allow for maintained progression through the game, and custom characters allow for strategizing. Yes--there are random events that will sometimes suck and challenge you, but that is the nature of rogue-lite games. Issues that keep me from giving a perfect 10 are inventory management issues (cannot evenly split ammo between characters), and issues with screen management when playing in multi-player, as well as minor graphical issues. The possibility to play it handheld (+ multiplayer coop) is a real pleasure, and the random generation of places/events makes it highly replayable. That game, despite some minor bug (like the slow movement on the first play after installation on the console) in my opinion is absolutely recommended. Expand
